SEARCH TIPS

1. Enter Key Words

Type the words or phrase you are looking for into the first box. The next box lists three different search methods.

2. Choose Your Search Method

Select "Any of these words" if you think that one or more of your words may appear in the story. Select "All of these words" if you are SURE that all the words appear in the story somewhere. Select "The full phrase" if you are looking for the exact phrase you have typed. A person's name or title is a good example.

Remember:
  • Upper and lower case does not matter.
  • Words with less than 3 characters, and blocks of numbers will be ignored.
  • To enable partial words matches, the * character can be placed after a word. For instance, to find stories about a "cat" or "cats" or "catfish", use: cat*

3. Choose Headlines or Full Stories

If you know your words appeared in a story headline, select the Headlines option for the fastest search. If you are looking for a general name or subject, select Full Stories, this provides the best possibility of finding all the relavent stories.

4. Choose a Time Frame

If you know the approximate date of the story you want, limit the Search Dates to a range of months for a faster search. For instance, if you know the story appeared during the summer, limit your search to May through September.

5. Custom Searching

If you are looking for stories that occured after a specific event, select Oldest stories to appear first. Set the Stories per Month to a low number (10) to scan a wide time range quickly. Set the Stories per Month to a larger setting (50) to see a more detailed look at a smaller time period.

Save time and money: Preview stories

Click the preview button to see the first few lines of each of the stories in the group. This is a great way to locate the exact story you need before downloading the complete story.

Search results are returned as lists of story headlines. These may be grouped by month, or by day.
Each group will begin with a button.

Important note: Once you have downloaded a story, save or print it. Don't hit your browser's "back" button or you will lose the story and still be charged for it.
