This Week's Blade-News

Holy cow! Where have I been?

It's easy to forget about this new-fangled blog technology. The habit for me for 2.5 years has been to stir up letters to the editor and e-mail response through my column, Out of Bounds. Now I get a second avenue in Left Field in which to mix things up.

Conversation is key to achieving accomplishments and it could not be more enjoyable to see letters and e-mails pour in every so often, after Out of Bounds ruffles the feathers.

This week's Out of Bounds ("If they only had some brains") --- likely available online Thursday evening --- probably will not ruffle any feathers. The column is about my boredom with the sports scene and how we need more role models to step up and deliver sports fans from the soap opera that is Pac Man and Vick --- though I absolutely support Vick's second chance in the NFL.

There is also an article that delves into the cyclical nature of Bowie High School athletics and how this fall could prove extremely fruitful for the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs to maybe win a few state titles.

Also, college football fans can read about how the Bowie State University football team deconstructed Livingstone last weekend in the Bulldogs' first CIAA game of the season. (Note: Saturday is the sixth annual Prince George's Classic --- read the Blade-News and visit www.bulldogs.com for more information!)

Catch Youth Sports and Sports Briefs to find out who scored for the South Bowie and Bowie boys and girls clubs football teams last weekend.

I always enjoy feedback as Left Field is the definition of a work in progress. Anything you have to say, feel free to leave a comment or e-mail me at jlinger@bladenews.com.

STAFF BLOG: LEFT FIELD

Left Field will address major sports news in Bowie, Mitchellville and Glenn Dale, as well as late-breaking information that occurs after the print edition of the Blade-News has passed its deadline. Left Field will also serve as an opportunity to take my print column, Out of Bounds, a step further.
