Lovin' the weather today!!
Just an FYI --- I spoke with Bowie State University football coach Damon Wilson yesterday for a story on the team's HUGE 31-24 double OT win against two-time defending champs Shaw Bears last Saturday.
Note: Freshman quarterback Emmanuel Yeager was named the MVP of the sixth annual Prince George's Classic, which was technically the name of the game for BSU Saturday. The event celebrates the culture of historically black universities and colleges such as Bowie State.
Getting back on track, I asked Wilson if he has talked to former BSU running back Isaac Redman, who is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad after having an impressive training camp.
Note to Redman: Approve my Facebook friend request, man!!
The practice squad players do not travel to away games, though they do roam the sidelines of home games and obviously practice with the active roster guys during the week. Wilson reported that Redman is doing fine and enjoying his adjustment to NFL life.
"He's doing good," said Wilson. "Isaac is continuing to learn (the Steelers') offensive system."
Mark my words: Redman may or may not get to see live NFL game action this season, but I believe that he will be made part of the active roster at some point in 2009-10. The Steelers do not exactly have a historically favorable track record when it comes to keeping running backs healthy --- Willie Parker, as incredibly talented and tough as he is, has issues remaining healthy.
Let's hope that Isaac "Red Zone" Redman gets some game action this year. He already has done BSU proud!
