Welcome!

Welcome to the Cape Blogger on HometownAnnapolis.com!  Thanks for stopping by to check out my blog.  There’s always a lot going on in Cape St. Claire.  I’m hoping to share some of that and give readers a feel for what it’s like to live in this community from the perspective of someone who is raising a family here.

I have been itching for some time to try my hand at writing a blog, and a few weeks ago, I decided to dive in and have a go.  I chose my community, Cape St. Claire, as my focus.  The Cape is a large waterfront neighborhood of almost 3000 middle class homes and 100's of businesses (a couple dozen with storefronts in our shopping center), two public schools, a volunteer fire department, and a handful of churches with no end of stories to tell.  Our community newsletter has recently cut back on production, and it felt like there should be another source of community dialogue - maybe something a little more 21st century...

The internet deities make it pretty easy to get a blog up and running these days.  After an evening of tinkering with Blogger layouts, and playing with gadgets and widgets, I had the makings of a respectable blog page.  I made a couple of preliminary posts and sheepishly sent them out to my nearest and dearest to see what they thought.

I wasn't openly ridiculed, so I took the next step and figured out how to set up a Facebook Fan Page for my blog and import my posts to it.  I didn't want the blog posts to litter my personal profile or show up on the News Feed for all my Facebook friends to see unless they chose to.  The Fan Page solved that problem.  I had the reassurance of knowing that my Mom and Dad were fans if nobody else.

Since then, I've been posting frequently about this or that in Cape St. Claire, and the few who read it seem moderately entertained.  I was largely inspired to do a blog by my Father, who writes one for his local online newspaper in South Carolina.  When I noticed the list of community blogs on our own HometownAnnapolis.com, it occurred to me that a community as large and diverse as Cape St. Claire should be represented and proceeded to contact the blog publishers.  They were very accommodating, and here we are!

So without further ado, you will find below the first post to my Cape St. Claire blog, originally posted on August 7, 2010.  I’m not sure yet whether I’ll put all my Blogger posts on my HometownAnnapolis blog, or only select ones.  We will see how it goes. If you have an interest in seeing the actual Cape Blogger blog in its entirety, you can find the Blogger version at:

Thanks again for reading.  I would love to hear any comments you might have on this or any other post.

 Welcome!

Welcome to my Cape St. Claire blog! I thought I'd play around with posting my thoughts, musings and observations on life in one of the Chesapeake Bay's finest communities.  We are just north of the Bay Bridge on a peninsula of land bordered by the Little Magothy River, the Chesapeake Bay, the Magothy River and Deep Creek.  My husband and I have lived here since we married in 1993 and bought our first home near Broadneck High School. In 2000, we moved a mile down the road to a place on Deep Creek.  After 17 years of married life in the Cape, we have two kids (Henry-11 and Kathryn-12 yrs), two dogs (Maggie - a 6-year old Great Dane and Laika - a 4 month-old Australian Shepherd), a cat called Dinky, and some fish to show for our time here.  To say this community is "water privileged" is a tremendous understatement.  We are fortunate to have three marinas, one boat ramp, and two lovely beaches at our disposal.  I've yet to see a community with such terrific access to the Bay.  We are truly delighted to be raising our family in such a wonderful place.
