Green Withdraws Name

I just spoke with Navy defensive coordinator Buddy Green, who is out of town with family. Green has also withdrawn his name from consideration for the Army head coaching position after interviewing with athletic director Kevin Anderson over the weekend.
Green, like Navy offensive coordinator Ivin Jasper, appreciated the opportunity to interview and did not rule out an eventual return to the head coaching ranks, but said this was not the right situation at this time. Green informed Anderson of his decision this morning.
"I'm extremely happy coaching at Navy. This is a great institution that has treated me and my family very well," Green said. "I feel good about the direction of the Navy football program under the leadership of Coach (Kenny) Niumatalolo. Kenny did an incredible job this season and I'm very excited about the future."
Green also confirmed that he was contacted by Maryland with regard to its vacant defensive coordinator position. Head coach Ralph Friedgen called Green following the Army-Navy game to see whether he would be interested in replacing Chris Cosh, who left Maryland to become assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Kansas State.
"I have the utmost respect for Ralph and I appreciate his interest, but I decided to turn down that opportunity because I have a great situation here at the Naval Academy," Green said.
