Lark Stepping Up

We've written at length about the center situation with senior Curtis Bass replacing sophomore Brady DeMell as the starter late in camp. Andy Lark's rise to starting right guard should not be overlooked. Initially, the coaching staff considered simply switching Bass and DeMell. However, head coach Ken Niumatalolo said Lark forced his way into the equation with consistently strong performances in practice.
"We've been very pleased with the way Andy has played. He's looked really good lately," Niumatalolo said. "Since we started looking at Andy possibly starting at guard, he has picked it up even more. He has taken that opportunity and run with it."
Lark, a product of Chuluota, Fla., has always been an imposing figure -- one of the biggest, strong linemen on the squad. Early in his career, Lark hovered close to 300 pounds, which was probably too heavy. The Oviedo High product worked extremely hard during the off-season and showed up for August camp in by far the best shape of his career. The 6-foot, 267-pound senior is more trim, athletic and agile than he's ever been. That's because he lost about 20 pounds since the end of last season.
Lark remains one of the strongest players on the squad with a maximum bench press of 415 pounds and a clean lift of 340 pounds.
