Voter Registration

Residents may call Prince George’s Voter’s Registration at 301-627-2811 or visit the Prince George’s County Election Office, 14701 Governor Oden Bowie Drive, Suite 101, Upper Marlboro.

Residents may also register at either of the two Prince George’s County Motor Vehicle Administration offices at 10251 Central Ave., Upper Marlboro, or 11760 Baltimore Ave., Beltsville.

Voter registration forms may be picked up at Bowie City Hall or at county libraries and post office branches.

Registration is permitted year-round except for 30 days before an election. Voter registration is permanent as long as a person continues to reside at his or her current address. If he or she moves and fails to reapply, registration expires after two federal elections in which the voter does not cast a ballot.

Meet The Bowie City Council

The city of Bowie has a nonpartisan city government directed by a mayor and six council members. The City Council meets in public session the first four Mondays of each month at City Hall, beginning at 8 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.

The last city election for mayor and City Council was November 2005. This council will serve a two-year term and the next election will be November 2007.

Bowie’s mayor, G. Frederick Robinson, is in his fourth consecutive term.

The council includes new members Todd Turner, District 3, and Kevin Conroy, who serves at large. Returning council members include Kurt Kroemer, District 1, Jack Jenkins, District 2, and D. Michael Lyles, District 4.

At-large Councilman Dennis Brady was elected mayor pro tem, which means he runs City Council meetings in the absence of the mayor.

State government:

The governor, who is elected by popular vote statewide, serves a four-year term and has responsibility for government operations and agencies from his office in the State House in Annapolis. The current governor, Robert Ehrlich Jr., was elected in November 2002. Maryland governors are restricted to serving two consecutive terms.

The General Assembly, the state’s legislature, is split into two houses — the Senate, with 47 members, and the House of Delegates, with 141 members. It meets for 90 days each year in Annapolis, beginning on the second Wednesday in January. The governor may call for special sessions of the legislature.
