George Cantrell
George Wilson "Pop Pop" Cantrell Jr., 75, of Stevensville and previously of Crofton, died of natural causes April 21 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mr. Cantrell was born Oct. 4, 1932, in Easley, S.C., to the late George W. Cantrell Sr. and Lois G. Cantrell. He was a graduate of Clemson University. He was a sergeant in the Army and an aeronautical engineer for Bendix Field Engineering from 1956 to 1992.
Mr. Cantrell was a professional baseball player in South America, a member of Clemson ROTC, an early contributor to the Apollo space program, and he traveled internationally in support of the space program.
He played the piano and organ for his childhood church. His interests included his family, sports, crosswords, golf and fishing.
Mr. Cantrell is survived by his wife, Barbara Cantrell, whom he married on Nov. 25, 1960; two sons, George W. Cantrell III of Great Falls, Va., and Michael S. Cantrell of Arnold; one daughter, Stephanie F. Cantrell-Burgess and son-in-law Jeffrey Burgess of Huntingtown; one brother, James D. Cantrell of Abbeville, S.C.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Burial is private.
Marie Lavoipierre
Marie Lavoipierre, 95, a resident of Annapolis and formerly of Durban, South Africa, died of congestive heart failure April 23 at her home.
She was born Nov. 13, 1912, on the island of Mauritius in South Africa.
Ms. Lavoipierre is survived by two sons, Roger and Pierre Lavoipierre of South Africa; two daughters, Josee Morris of Annapolis and Anne Morrison-Low of Easton; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Parkway. Interment is private. Arrangements are by the John M. Taylor Funeral Home.

Richard Lomax
Richard Edward Lomax, Jr., 36, of Glen Burnie, died after a brief illness April 19 at the Harbour View Hospital in Baltimore.
Born March 31, 1972, in Baltimore, Mr. Lomax attended the Salvation Army Day Care, Germantown Elementary School and Annapolis High School. He was talented with working on computers and electrical equipment, and he enjoyed driving tow trucks and working as a cashier.
He was planning to make a career change and relocate to Florida in June to work with his father.
He was known as "Little Rich" and at an early age he joined the Children's Choir of First Baptist Church. In 1983, he received an athletic award from the Naval Complex Youth Baseball.
He was devoted to his family and friends. He enjoyed helping the elderly, pets, cooking, buying and wearing sneakers, shopping and traveling.
Mr. Lomax was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond and Minnie Chapman.
Survivors include his parents, Margie Marie and Richard Edward Lomax Sr.; his companion, Carolyn Hawkins; stepmother, Barbara Ryan; three stepchildren, Domonic Fletcher, Valencia Fletcher and Demarcus Owens; three sisters, Francine Love, Tuesday Lomax and Kendall Lomax; and two brothers, Keith Lomax and Brian Lomax.
There will be a viewing at 9 a.m. tomorrow, with a Christian wake at 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 31 West Washington St. Burial follows at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1911 Forest Drive. Arrangements are by William Reese & Sons Mortuary, P.A.
Owens Napier
Owens Napier, 79, died of cancer April 21 at his home in Huntingtown.
Mr. Napier was born Dec. 25, 1928, in Hazzard, Ky.
He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Napier.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruby Napier of Huntingtown; two sons, Ronald Napier of St. Leonard and Dean Napier of Gambrills; one daughter, Diane Ortega of Lusby; one brother, Bill Napier; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Raymond-Wood Funeral Home, 10684 Southern Maryland Blvd., Dunkirk.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at Huntingtown Church of Christ, 4670 Solomons Island Road. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Gardens in Dunkirk.

Carla Chite Ort
Carla Patricia Chite Ort, 65, of St. Leonard and formerly of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Silver Spring and Churchton, died of natural causes April 18 at her residence.
Ms. Chite Ort was born in Washington, D.C., on August 30, 1942, to Carl Joseph and Virginia Davis Chite.
After graduating from Holy Name Academy in Silver Spring, she worked as a bookkeeper for a brokerage office. In her 60s she returned to school and earned an associate degree.
She was best known for her crafts and excelled in quilting and painting. After moving to Franklin Manor in 1971, she ran a craft shop in Deale for a number of years.
In addition to her crafts, she was known for her macaroni and cheese. After retiring, she moved to Port St. Lucie to take care of her father.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Davis Chite; and a granddaughter, Destiny Sipe.
She is survived by her father, Carl Joseph Chite of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; three daughters, Marianne Stiles of Churchton, Pamela Walker of St. Leonard and Carla Sipe of Wayson's Corner; one sister, Frances Noyes of Glenwood; one brother, Anthony Chite of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mount Harmony Lane, Owings. Interment will be private.
