Navy's first two hitters in the lineup, Renaldo Hollins and Mike Guadagnini, combined to go 13-for-19 with seven runs scored yesterday to lead the Midshipmen to a doubleheader sweep of Holy Cross at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium.
Navy rallied in the opener and won in nine innings, 6-5, before taking the nightcap, 9-3.
The Midshipmen totaled 31 hits on the afternoon while improving to 27-20 and 10-8 in Patriot League play.
By virtue of its two wins yesterday and Army's two victories over Lafayette, Navy has clinched a spot in the Patriot League Tournament.
Hollins finished 5-for-9 with three runs scored and two RBIs in the doubleheader. Guadagnini went 8-for-10 with a double and four runs scored. Guadagnini went 5-for-5 in the nightcap.
The opener was a tight contest that had Navy holding a 4-3 edge going into the seventh, but Holy Cross scored a pair of unearned runs to grab a 5-4 lead. The Mids pushed across a run in the home half of the seventh to force extra innings.
In the seventh, Hollins drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on Guadagnini's bunt. After a popout on a sacrifice attempt, Thomas Hamilton singled through the right side to score Hollins and knot the game at five.
After a pair of errors and a walk loaded the bases for Navy in the ninth, Jeff Bland drilld the first pitch he saw off the fence in left-center to bring home Hollins with the game-winning run.
