SEVERN SCHOOL 5K: The second Salute the Legends 5K /Family Fun Run/Walk, sponsored by the Admiral Parents Association of Severn School, will be held on May 4 at Severn School in Severna Park. TIGER TROT: Central Elementary School's PTA, along with local business sponsors, will host its third annual Tiger Trot 5K and One-Mile Fun Run/Walk on May 10 at 8 a.m. There will also be a pre-race spaghetti dinner, raffle, and silent auction on May 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the school on Stepneys Lane in Edgewater.
Race packets will be available for pick-up during the dinner. Race Day packet pickup begins at 7 a.m. The 5K race starts and ends at Central Elementary and winds through the Central/South River campuses. For safety reasons, please no roller blades, bicycles, scooters or wheeled shoes. Pre-registration is $15; race day registration is $20 (T-shirt size is not guaranteed for race day registrants). Central Elementary students race free with a minimum of $15 in pledges.

BEGINNERS RUNNING PROGRAM: The Annapolis Striders 10-week learn-to-run program is underway at Bates Track on Spa Road (behind Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts) in Annapolis. Sessions will be held Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 8 a.m. Participants should be capable of walking briskly for 20 minutes and have checked with their health care professional. Starting with a walk-run regimen, each week will see less walking and more running, working up to running a 3.1 miles by July 12. The program includes education on finding the right shoes, injury prevention and treatment, keeping track of heart rate, runners high, safety, and more. All who complete the course will receive a T-shirt. There is no fee for club members; $15 for club membership; family rates available. MARATHON TRAINING: Registration is open for the 29th annual "Moore's Marine's" Marathon Training Program with RunAnnapolis.com. Training begins June 7 on the same course hundreds of previous first-timers have successfully trained to achieve their dream. The program will feature guaranteed entries for Marine Corps Marathon, Steamtown, Baltimore and will prepare for Chicago, Johnstown, Ricmond, New York or any of the fall marathons. The program will also be structured to prepare trail runners for the JFK 50 Mile Run and the Gunpowder Falls 50K as well. ZOOMA WOMEN'S SERIES: The inaugural ZOOMA Annapolis Half Marathon & 10K will be held on June 1. The route starts at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis and finishes on the waterfront at Jonas Green Park in Anne Arundel County. Anne Arundel County and the City of Annapolis are co-sponsors of the event.
