After a two year hiatus, the Navy AC girls water polo team participated at 2008 Choate Rosemary Hall Water Polo Springfest.
During a 13-10 loss to North Penn, Katie Ermakova led Navy with five goals. Ashton Cline added three goals, and Mackenzie Edwards had two.
In the second game, Navy AC fell to Greenwich High School, 9-5. Leigh Auth and Ermakova each scored two goals and Edwards had one.
Navy AC finished bracket play against Loomis Chaffee, another New England school, falling 11-10. Auth and Edwards scored three goals each and Ermakova had two. Blair Bernhardt,and Cline had one each.
Navy's only win came against Choate B, 11-3. Ermakova had five goals, while Edwards had three. Auth, Bernhardt, and Cline scored one goal each.
Susan Doetsch, the youngest member of the Navy team, played well in goal.
Jordan Cox and Jasmine Courtenay also played well during the tournament.
ANNAPOLIS SOCCER CLUB: The ASC Bulldogs U13 boys team remained unbeaten by defeating the Arundel Firebirds 7-1.
Denny Acosta had a hat trick, while Tony Alfaro scored twice with one assist for the Bulldogs (4-0). Victor Rivera and Doug Remaley each had a goal and an assist, and Kyle Goncz and Matthew Hays anchored the defense. The netminding was split between Joe Catoe (4 saves) and Forest Groft (5 saves). Groft also contributed an assist while playing in the field.
ST. MARTIN'S LACROSSE: Katie Govatos' play on both offense and defense helped extend the Bulldogs winning streak to four games.
Against the St. Andrews Dolphins, Govatos scored three goals in the first half and then turned away 10 shots as goalie in the second half of a 13-12 victory. Logan Fornes and Catherine Scudder each had three goals, and Emily Feege had two goals and an assist. Kelly Rinard and Christine Richardson also scored, with Emily King and Veronica Williamson providing assists. Michelle Whissel contributed three saves in goal.
Against the Indian Creek Eagles, Govatos led the way with six goals and an assist in the 14-10 win. Blaise Govatos, Fornes and Scudder each scored two goals, Williamson had a goal and two assists, Whissel a goal and an assist and Shelby Mitchell an assist. Caroline Aube made nine saves in goal. Molly Roloff and Allison Veit also played well for the Bulldogs (4-3).
NAVAL ACADEMY AQUATIC CLUB: Six Naval Academy Aquatic swimmers captured first places at the Elite Ling Course Meet held at the Naval Academy.
Tommy Cranford won five events in the boys 10-and-under division: 50- and 100-meter backstrokes (37.92, 1:21.01), the 200-meter individual medley (2:52.29), and the 50- and 200-meter freestyles (32.29 and 2:32.48). He set club records in the 50- and 200-meter freestyles.
Cara Slear won four events in the girls 13- and 14-year-old division: 400-meter individual medley (5:19.07), the 100- and 200-meter breaststrokes (1:20.30, 2:54.08), and the 100-meter butterfly (1:08.70).
In the boys 13/14 division, Matt McKenney won the 100- and 200-meter butterfly events (1:04.96, 2:23.52).
Justin Vagts won the 800-meter freestyle (8:41.32) and Dan Quinn won the 100-meter butterfly (59.98) in the boys 15-and-over division. In the girls 15-and-over division, Whitney Avers won the 400-meter individual medley (5:06.55).
Colleen Randolph finished second in the 15-and-over girls 200-meter breaststroke in a time (2:43.80) that established a new club record.
Others from NAAC who finished among the top six in their events were Lauren Armstrong, Kristen Avery, Jack Brandenberg, A.J. Bruninga, Gavin Colley, Taylor Gill, Marcell Hakun, Alex Hearn, Charlie Melesh, Kane Randolph, Tom Shea, and Erika and Joe Vogel.
Of the 75 NAAC swimmers who competed in the meet, 34 had career best times in all of the events in which they competed.
SOUTHERN BASKETBALL: The Southern Maryland Storm girls U15 AAU team compiled a 3-1 record during the Flames Regional Warmup.
The Storm notched victories over the Vogues, 38-21; the Flames, 44-30; and Hoopsmart, 42-34. Their only loss came against Loudon Storm, 47-35.
Jasmine Wills was the leading scorer for the Storm, totaling 38 points in the four games. Other scorers included Brooke Echard, Amanda Beall, Raquelle Jones, Myiesha Wallace, Jahkila Mooring, Heather Frost, Sarah Rosenberg, and Camiele Hawkins.
