The Naval Academy Tennis Club Team received an at-large bid to the USTA/NIRSA national club tennis championships in Cary, N.C., from April 17-19.
Of the 64 teams competing, Navy represented the team from the school with the smallest student enrollment. After earning second place in the "pool play" on the first day with Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Puerto Rico, Navy played in top half of the bracket for the rest of the tournament. Navy defeated Northeastern, but lost close matches to Delaware, Miami of Ohio and Brigham Young University.

Navy finished 28th in the country. The top 4 finishers in the tournament were Texas, Cal-Berkley, Texas A&M and Stanford.

Navy coach Christine Copper said, "I am very proud of what the Navy club tennis players were able to accomplish at the national tournament last week. The doubles team of Switzer and Dias played the best I've seen them play over the past two years in the match against Texas A&M. This was our first year competing in the national championship tournament and I think our result shows that we belonged there and that Navy club tennis will be a team to reckon with in the coming years."

Senior Anna Switzer, the team captain, said, "Competing in the USTA Campus Championship was the highlight of my four years of Navy Tennis. The level of play was exceptional and I was impressed by the highly competitive yet friendly atmosphere. I'm very proud of our team for the hard work and dedication it took throughout the year to ultimately place within the top 30 colleges in the Nation."

Chartwell Exhibition: Tennis Director Jamie Peterson hosted the fifth Annual Summer Kick-Off Party & Doubles Exhibition Match on April 26 at the Chartwell Golf and Country Club. More than a hundred enjoyed a tough three set victory for the home team of Jamie Peterson and Jesse Carl, 6-2,6-7,6-4.

Chartwell got off to a fast start powered by low crosscourt returns and well timed poaches at the net. Hyon Yoo and Nitin Deodhar fought back in the second set and wound up winning in the tiebreaker. Yoo and Deodhar started the third set up 2-0, until Peterson hit a spectacular cross-court forehand winner which brought the Chartwell members to their feet. When the crowd got into the match, the Chartwell duo caught their energy and stormed back to break Yoo's serve at 4-5 for the victory.
