The annual Lights on the Bay exhibit not only is beautiful, but it benefits the hospital.

Nov. 23 -- Thanksgiving Day. National holiday. Most federal, state, county and city offices are closed, as are schools, post offices and banks.

Nov. 26 -- Santa sails into the City Dock with Sparky, the Fire Dog, 3 p.m., Susan B. Campbell Park.

Nov. 26 -- Grand Illumination, lighting of the city's Christmas tree and welcome for Santa, 6 p.m. City Dock, Annapolis. 410-224-1775.

Nov. 30 -- Special late-night holiday shopping on Maryland Avenue and State Circle, with more than 20 botiques open until 9 p.m. 410-990-9700.



December 2006



The annual Eastport Yacht Club's Lights Parade draws thousands of spectators to Annapolis.

Daily through Jan. 1 -- Lights on the Bay, sponsored by Anne Arundel Medical Center, daily 5-10 p.m. Sandy Point State Park, Route 50 by the Bay Bridge. Admission. 410-481-3161.

Dec. 1-2 -- State House by Candlelight, with informal concerts, Christmas tree and quilts display, 7-9 p.m., State House lobby, State Circle. 410-974-3400.

Dec. 1 -- The Severn Town Club's 43rd Annual Holly Ball, 6 p.m., Loews Annnapolis Hotel, 126 West St. Beneficiaries are Hospice of the Chesapeake and the Neonatal Unit at AAMC. 410-263-2659.

Dec. 2 -- College football: Army vs. Navy, 2:30 p.m. Philadelphia, Pa. 1-800-874-6289.

Dec. 2 -- Magothy River Boats Parade, 7 p.m., off Ferry Point Marina and Magothy Seafood Restaurant, Mill Creek, Mill Creek Road, Arnold. 410-647-5793.

Dec. 7 -- Midnight Madness I, sponsored by Annapolis Business Association, 6 p.m. to midnight, downtown, Maryland Avenue and West Annapolis, free parking in Hillman and Gotts Court garages and Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, free shuttle service. 410-266-5555.

Dec. 9 -- Santa on the Trail, Santa arrives by sleigh and hands out candy along the B&A Trail Park, starting at 10:30 a.m. behind Arnold Station with various stops aong the way, ending at 2:45 p.m. at Sawmill Creek Park. Rain date: Dec. 10. 410-222-6244.

Dec. 9 -- Eastport Yacht Club's Lights Parade, 6 to 8 p.m., Spa Creek, Severn River, and Ego Alley to City Dock. 410-267-9549.

Dec. 10 -- Holiday open house at the Governor's Mansion, State Circle, 1-4 p.m.

Dec. 14 -- Holiday open house at City Hall, 5 to 7 p.m., Duke of Gloucester Street.

Dec. 31 -- First Night Annapolis, New Year's Eve celebration of the arts, 3 p.m. to midnight, Historic District of Annapolis. 410-268-8553.
