Todays obituaries recognize: Lucille Adkins, Rita Curry, Roland Ebner, Dorothy Morris, Sadie Snyder, Mary Theal and Evelyn Vice.

Lucille Adkins

Lucille Elton Adkins, 80, of Howard County and formerly of Annapolis, died after a brief illness Feb. 25 at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Raised in Warner, Va., Ms. Adkins graduated from Virginia Union University and completed graduate work at Temple University.

She was a math teacher for over 30 years in the Philadelphia school system and was once the chairman of the math department at Shoemaker Junior High School. For a short period, she worked for the Internal Revenue Service.

She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia and the Baptist Church of Annapolis.

She enjoyed reading and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elton S. Dungee and Mason W. Adkins; one sister, Adell Walker.

Survivors include one son, Andre Atkins of Annapolis; one sister, Uvelia Bowens of Williamsburg, Va., four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A Christian wake will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church on West Washington St., followed by a Home Going service at 11 a.m. at the church.

Internment will follow at the Bestgate Memorial Park, 714 Bestgate Road. Arrangements are by Reese & Sons Mortuary.

Rita Curry

Rita Mae Curry, 55, of Baltimore and previously of Herald Harbor, died of complications due to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Feb. 28 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a long illness.

Ms. Curry, also known as Rita Boehmer, was born Sept. 10, 1952, in Baltimore to Rita Hershfeld of Baltimore and the late James Oscar Curry.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Maryland State Board of Realtors.

She enjoyed the beach, her family and crafts.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn McVicker.

Survivors include three sons, Neal Boehmer of Kent Island, Ryan Boehmer of Dallas, Texas, and Randy Boehmer of Crownsville; one brother, James Curry of Ocean Pines; and four sisters, Christina Shepard of Zellwood, Fla., Mary Warren of Riverview, Fla., and Marge Rippen and Kathy Frome of Baltimore.

Family and friends may visit from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, 1 Second Ave. S.W. in Glen Burnie.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Roland Ebner

Roland Ebner, 86, of Ocean View, Del., and previously of Annapolis, died Feb. 21 in Palm Coast, Fla.

Mr. Ebner was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Washington, D.C.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Rolph Ebner; three sons, Dean R. Ebner of Laytonsville, Timothy R. Ebner of Mt. Airy, and Keith R. Ebner of Greer, S.C.; one daughter, Judy Rolph Ebner of Madrid, Spain; one sister, Norma Creel of Annapolis; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at St. Matthews By the Sea United Methodist Church in Fenwick Island, Del. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by Hastings Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Leader Dogs for the Blind, Fenwick Islands Lions Club, care of Noble Simpson, 201 Chad Place, Millville, DE 19970.

Dorothy Morris

Dorothy Elizabeth "Dorrie" McDowell Morris, 81, a resident of Crofton for 37 years, died Feb. 26 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a 10-week illness.

Mrs. Morris was born Sept. 18, 1926, in New Rochelle, N.Y., and graduated from Northfield-Mount Herman School in 1944. The third generation to attend Mount Holyoke College, she graduated in 1948.

She taught knitting and needlework while working at The Heirloom in Crofton from 1979 to 1993.

She was a volunteer for 37 years with the Gray Ladies of the Red Cross in military hospitals, and taught English in South Vietnam until she was evacuated in 1965.

She held various offices in the Crofton Ladies Golf Association, Crofton Village Green Garden Club, and several bridge clubs. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Church choir.

She was an active traveler, golfer and bridge player up until her illness. She traced her Presbyterian and Quaker roots to the first families of Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, and kept up many correspondents from grade school. She also enjoyed reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jack Morris; and two daughters, Anne and Nancy Morris.

Survivors include one son, John McDowell Morris of Columbia; two daughters, Leslie Morris Smith of Wyndmoor, Pa., and Elizabeth Willson Morris of Berkeley, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 3 to 4 p.m. tomorrow at Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church, 1657 Crofton Parkway in Crofton.

A celebration of her life will follow at the church. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. March 20 at Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Beall Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the church, 1657 Crofton Parkway, Crofton, MD 21114.

Sadie Snyder

Sadie Snyder, 91, a life-long resident of Annapolis, died of natural causes Feb. 29 at Mandrin Hospice House in Harwood.

Mrs. Snyder as born Nov. 2, 1916, in Annapolis and graduated from Annapolis High School in 1934.

She was a former teacher at Edgewater Elementary School and a former librarian for the Annapolis Library.

She was a member of Kneseth Israel Synagogue, the National Council of Jewish Women, Sister Hood and Hadassah.

She was an avid reader of non-fiction books.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Snyder; and two brothers, Buddy and Sherman Levy.

Survivors include one son, Jay Snyder of Arnold; one daughter, Helene Sachs of Annapolis; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave. Interment will be in Kneseth Israel Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mandrin Hospice House, 3675 Solomons Island Road, Harwood, MD 20776.

Mary Theal

Mary Catherine Theal, 90, a 45-year resident of Glen Burnie, died of natural causes Feb. 27 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Mrs. Theal was born May 12, 1917, in Buffalo, N.Y.

She attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed country music.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Alvin E. Theal; and two brothers, Robert and Ralph Dittmann.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Graas of Crofton and Carol Clark and Linda Topper of Glen Burnie; one brother, John Dittmann of New York; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, 1 Second Ave S.W. in Glen Burnie.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 1 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 7436 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. in Glen Burnie. Interment will be in Meadowridge Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1132, Fairfax, VA 22038-1132.

Evelyn Vice

Evelyn Vice, 79, a resident of Arnold for 30 years, died of natural causes Feb. 28 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Mrs. Vice was born Aug. 7, 1928, in Kenvir, Ky.

A homemaker all of her life, she was a member of the West Annapolis Veterans of Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Robert E. Vice; and one son, Wayne Blackwell.

Survivors include three sons, Tom Blackwell of Crisfield and Kenneth Blackwell and Robert Vice Jr. of Arnold; two daughters, Barbara Ann Kuffler of Lexington Park and Vicki Ogilvie of Harwood; one brother, Richard Whitaker of Annapolis; one sister, Irene Sheffer of Glen Burnie; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may join in the celebration of her life from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
