Sunday's obituaries recognize James Aikin and Bernadine Crutchley

James Aikin

James William Aikin, 25, a resident of Shady Side for 15 years and previously of Bealeton, Va., died suddenly March 18 in Punta Gorda, Fla.

 

Mr. Aikin was born June 5, 1982, in Annapolis to Carolyn Lehnen of Linden, Va., and Earle Cleek of West River, and attended Liberty High School in Bealeton.

He was a plumber, and was in the ROTC in high school, and was in the honor and color guard.

He enjoyed playing guitar and drums, lacrosse, football, watching movies, listening to music, mudding, fishing and tattoos.

Survivors include his stepfather, Gene Lehnen of Linden; two brothers, Eugene and Charlie Lehnen of Madison, Va.; one sister, Jessy Lehnen of Punta Gorda, Fla.; his grandparents, Elizabeth and Barry Aikin of Shady Side and Katherine Cleek of West River; and his stepgrandparents, Bud and Doris Lehnen of Punta Gorda.

Family and friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 905 Galesville Road in Galesville.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Episcopal Church, 220 Owensville Road in West River. Interment will be in Woodfield Cemetery in Galesville.

Bernadine Crutchley

Bernadine M. "Bern" Crutchley, 83, a resident of Annapolis since 1950, died March 20 at Tate Hospice House in Linthicum after a three month illness.

Mrs. Crutchley was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Baltimore, where she graduated from St. Michael's School.

She worked at the Davison Chemical Co. in Baltimore and at Nationwide Insurance Co., until she started her family and became a homemaker.

She was an election judge for the county, and was the treasurer and a member of Edgewater-Parole Homemakers Club. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She enjoyed gardening and travel.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Frank A. Pilarski Jr.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, R. Wilson Crutchley; four sons, Gerard W. Crutchley of Centreville, Stephen J. Crutchley of Stevensville, Thomas F. Crutchley of Annapolis and Paul B. Crutchley of Trappe; one sister, Barbara Fabula of Freeland; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgley Ave.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
