Shelly Horenberg

Rochelle "Shelly" Ellen Horenberg, 72, a resident of Annapolis for 25 years, died of complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease March 30 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

 

Mrs. Horenberg was born Baby Girl Posner Aug. 22, 1935, in Baltimore and was raised in Washington, D.C., where she attended Coolidge High School and a business school. She changed her name in 1954.

She worked as a bookkeeper in her husband's business for 40 years, retiring in 2001.

She enjoyed knitting, making hundreds of baby caps and blankets for cancer patients and sending them to Anne Arundel Medical Center. She also enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises, and crocheting.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Ted Horenberg; three sons, Robert Horenberg of North Potomac, Hal Horenberg of Potomac and Glenn Horenberg of Silver Spring; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements were by Edward Segal Funeral Director.

Eugene Lynch

Eugene Ray "Gene" Lynch, 67, of Severn died April 18 at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Mr. Lynch was born Feb. 2, 1941, in North Carolina to the late George and Nellie Lynch.

After serving in the Army for 20 years, he worked as a police officer for NSA for another 20 years.

He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a great marksman.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Sun Lynch; and one sister, Barbara Synder of Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 12:15 p.m. today at Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory, 1411 Annapolis Road in Odenton. Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.

David Rogers

David Arnold "Dave" Rogers, 51, a six-year resident of Brooklyn Park and the owner of a cleaning business, died April 18 at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Rogers was born June 26, 1956, in Nuremburg, Germany, to the late David Elliott and Jean Lindahl Rogers. He graduated from Glen Burnie High School. He lived in Petersburg, Va., before moving to Brooklyn Park.

He was self-employed through his carpet cleaning business, Spillage Light.

Mr. Rogers was a member of Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Glen Burnie.

He enjoyed cooking and gardening, especially bonsai plant gardening. He built his own aviary and raised cockatiels, finches and parakeets. He was devoted to his family.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Evelyn P. Rogers; one son, David Elliott Rogers of Glen Burnie; one daughter, Sarah Nichole Rogers of Federal Hill; his stepmother, Mathilde Rogers of Glen Burnie; and one sister, Beth White of Annapolis.

Services will be held at Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, 1301 William St. in Glen Burnie at a date to be determined. Interment is private. Arrangements are by Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services.

Burton Steinman

Burton Irving Steinman, 71, a 13-year resident of Odenton and previously of Laurel, died April 18 in Odenton.

Mr. Steinman was born Nov. 11, 1936, to the late Morris and Nettie Steinman.

He was employed as a civil engineer for 40 years and was member of the Civil Engineer Society.

He enjoyed sports, especially the Maryland Terps and the Redskins. He also enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Steinman, whom he married in 1956; two daughters, Kathie Ruelke of Florida and Cindie Fitzenreiter of Columbia; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday at Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory. Interment is private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road N.E., Atlanta, GA 30329.

Daniel Tuel

Daniel L. "Dan" Tuel Sr., 80, of Preston and previously a 28-year resident of Edgewater, died April 19 at Memorial Hospital in Easton.

Mr. Tuel was born March 2, 1928, in Washington, D.C., to the late Guy Lewis and Elizabeth Thomas Bettis Tuel.

He retired in 1990 from Carpenter's Union 1145 in Washington, D.C.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Tuel was a life-member of the American Legion Caroline Post 29 and the Edgewater Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10072, and was a member of Temple Lodge 128 A.F. and A.M. in Denton, the Naval Lodge A.F. and A.M. in Washington, D.C., and St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton.

He loved to fish, but most of all he loved his family and his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas F. and Guy L. Tuel Jr.; and one grandson.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Bettye C. Tuel; three sons, Daniel L. Tuel Jr. of Denton, David H. Tuel of Orlando, Fla., and Dale L. Tuel of Clarksville, Tenn.; two daughters, Donna L. Strawbridge of Hershey, Pa., and Denise L. Hammond of Kissimmee, Fla.; one brother, George Murray Tuel of Gaithersburg; one sister, Nancy DeLay of Alexandria, Va.; twelve grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 Fifth Ave. in Denton. Family and friends may visit at the church at 1 p.m. Interment will be private; arrangements are by Moore Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in memory of Daniel L. Tuel Sr. to honor his deceased grandson, Adam Hammond, to The Ronald MacDonald House, 401 Seventh Ave. S., St. Petersburg, FL 33701 or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 29119, Phoenix, AZ 85038-9119.

Mary Woodbury

Mary Frances Woodbury, 83, a resident of Annapolis for six years and previously of Waynesboro, Va., died of complications from Alzheimer's disease April 21 at Skyway Manor I Assisted Living after an illness lasting 13 years.

Mrs. Woodbury was born May 20, 1925, in Rocky Mount, N.C., to the late Harvey Guy and Leona Robbins Pittman.

She worked for Eastern Airlines in Charlotte, N.C., and Union Home Loan in Springfield, Va., and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Crofton and Waynesboro Country Clubs and was a Presbyterian. She was active in her community, volunteering with Reach for Recovery Breast Cancer Foundation and charity golf events.

She was an inventor, and enjoyed travel and especially golf.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. Woodbury; and two sisters, Mildred McLemore and Pearl Womble.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail Turner of Crownsville and Marcia Thomas of Gloucester, Va.; one brother, Harvey Pittman of Nashville, N.C.; one sister, Peggy Wrenn of Nashville; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 1110 St. Stephens Church Road in Crownsville. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Skyway Manor I, 1142 Skyway, Annapolis, MD 21409.

Denise Taurino

Denise Taurino, 57, a resident of Crofton for 21 years, died April 21 in her home surrounded by her children.

Ms. Taurino was born March 2, 1951, in Bucks County, Pa., to the late Cosimo and Eleanor Taurino. She graduated from high school and attended college, and worked for the Internal Revenue Service.

She enjoyed traveling, beaches, horseback riding and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include one son, Jay Thierry of Annapolis; two daughters, Lori Thierry Carr of Glen Burnie and Carrie Bender of Crofton; two brothers, Robert Taurino of Tacoma, Wash., and Kevin Taurino of Quaker Town, Pa.; one sister, Cheryl Krzaczyk of Richboro, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road in Bowie.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Drive in Crofton.

Interment will be private.
