George Burton
George Hugh Burton, 59, of Odenton died of natural causes May 10 in his home.
Mr. Burton was born April 17, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Dorothy Burton and the late George Burton.
He worked as a director of maintenance for the railroad, and served as an Army sergeant in Vietnam.
Survivors include one son, George "Duke" Burton of Crofton; two daughters, Kimberly Brinton of Wilmington, Del., and Johanna Burton of Crofton; one brother, Frank Burton of Owings; and one sister, Charlotte Pirnia of Bethesda.
Family and friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. today and at noon tomorrow at Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory, 1411 Annapolis Road in Odenton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the funeral home chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Riverview Memorial Park, 2026 Lincoln Road in Verona, Pa.

Ruth Higgins
Ruth Ann Kolata Higgins, 93, of Kent Island, died May 10 at Greenfield Assisted Living in Berryville, Va.
Mrs. Higgins was born Oct. 28, 1914, in Ellendale, Del., to the late Charles and Louise Kolata. She attended secondary school in Kent Island and graduated from Stevensville School. She earned a teaching certificate from Towson State College and later earned a bachelor's degree from Salisbury State College.
She worked as principal and teacher at Stevensville School, teaching all grade levels, and later taught elementary school in Caroline and Dorchester counties. She taught for over 30 years.
She was an active member of Stevensville United Methodist Church and Kent Island United Methodist Church, where among numerous activities she taught Sunday school and headed the Prayer Chain Mission.
Mrs. Higgins was devoted to her family, and teaching young children was her love and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Harold Bailey Higgins; one daughter, Donna Gayle Higgins; and two brothers, Karl and Harry Kolata.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Higgins of Berryville and Donald Higgins of Norfolk, Va.; and three granddaughters.
Family and friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road in Chester.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Kent Island United Methodist Church, 2739 Cox Neck Road in Chester. Interment will be in Stevensville Cemetery on Kent Island.

Byron Lovell
Byron Ervin Lovell, 63, a resident of Odenton since 1994, died of natural causes April 26 at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton.
Mr. Lovell was born Aug. 21, 1944, in Hartford, Conn.
He was a member of the Good Sams RV Club and the Disabled American Veterans.
He served in the Army from 1965 to 1968.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Linda A. Lovell; his former wife, Lorraine Lovell; one son, Edward Byron Lovell of Gambrills; two brothers, Rodney Lovell Jr. and Frank Lovell of New Hampshire; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at noon tomorrow at Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory, 1411 Annapolis Road in Odenton.

George Nardone
Retired Army Lt. Col. George Joseph Nardone, 94, a resident of Odenton since 1956, died of complications from Parkinson's disease May 7 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Lt. Col. Nardone was born July 12, 1913, in New York City.
He served in the Army's Medical Service Corps for over 33 years, including during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He volunteered to serve in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations, and worked as administrator of Kimbrough Army Hospital at Fort George G. Meade and the DiLorenzo Medical Clinic at the Pentagon.
Among his honors, Lt. Col. Nardone received the Purple Heart, Army Medal of Valor, National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Army Occupation Medal for Germany, Army Commendation Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with the 20-year device. He also received the honor of Redemptorist Oblate in 1999.
After he retired from the military, he served as director of the National Association of Uniform Services, and as a landscape designer with J.W. Stewart Landscaping.
He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Odenton, where he served as incorporator and financial director. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 5263 in Odenton and past-president of the Odenton Improvement Association.
He enjoyed music and playing the violin, baseball, animals, gardening and gourmet cooking.
He was preceded in death in 2005 by his wife, Rosemary Margaret Nardone; and his siblings.
Survivors include one son, George J.C. Nardone of Manchester in Carroll County; two daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" Nardone of Odenton and Lynda Dabrowski of Hunt Valley; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1283 Odenton Road in Odenton.
Interment will be at 3 p.m. July 22 in Arlington National Cemetery.

Edith Phipps
Edith Theresa Schneider Phipps, 97, of Sarasota, Fla., and formerly of Gambrills, died May 9 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Phipps was born Jan. 1, 1911, in Baltimore to the late Louis M. and Catherine M. Schneider.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney R. Phipps Sr.; two sons, J. Daniel and Sidney R. Phipps Jr.; and two brothers, Louis F. and H. Vernon Schneider.
Survivors include two sons, Robert G. Phipps of Sarasota and M. Glenn Phipps of Grasonville; one sister, Annette C. Reedy of Talbott, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
