Wednesday's obituaries recognize: Rebecca Black, Joseph Clements Sr., Joseph Clements Sr., Andre Evans, Jerry Griffin, Lois Hunt, Kathleen McGurk and Susan Weintraub.

Rebecca Black

Rebecca Lee "Becky" Black, 48, a resident of Bowie for 38 years, died May 10 at the Hospice of the Chesapeake in Linthicum after a nine-month illness.

Mrs. Black was born Sept. 26, 1959, in Wichita, Kan., the daughter of Leo R. Martin of Kansas and the late Wanda L. Martin. She attended Bowie High School.

She worked for the Maryland Association of Counties in Annapolis for many years.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Wayne C. Black; two sons, Christopher M. and Jonathan M. Black of Bowie; one brother, Paul Martin of Kansas; and three sisters, Cindy Rubick and Cathy Wright of Kansas and Diana Sweeney.

Family and friends may visit from 3 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road in Bowie.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens.


Joseph Clements Sr.

Joseph Clements Sr., 79, an 11-year resident of Ocean Pines and previously a longtime resident of Clinton, died of complications of diabetes May 12 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Mr. Clements was born April 17, 1929, in Washington, D.C., where he attended Anacostia High School.

He worked as a superintendent with Flippo Construction Co. for most of his life.

He was a member of Moose Lodge 126 in Clinton for many years.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Louis and Roy Courtney Litz and Anthony and Frank Clements; and three sisters, Olive Medlock, Carmella Del Guidice and Marie Lomax.

Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Deborah E. Clements; five sons, Richard and Joseph Clements Jr. of Edgewater, Michael Clements of Berlin, Kevin Clements of Waldorf and Steven Clements of Huntingtown; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may join in the celebration of his life from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.


Joyce Donaldson

Joyce Donaldson, 70, a resident of Gambrills and formerly of Bowie, died May 11 in her home after a long illness.

Mrs. Donaldson was born April 26, 1938, in Washington, D.C.

She worked for State Farm Insurance.

She loved children, flowers and the parishioners of the Church of the Apostle.

Survivors include her husband, Charles "Buddy" Donaldson; two sons, Chuck and Michael Donaldson; one daughter, Cindy Butler; two brothers, Harry and Joseph Schmidt; and 10 grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from noon to 2 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 N.W. Crain Highway in Bowie.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 1 p.m. Friday, at Sacred Heart Chapel, 16501 Annapolis Road in Bowie. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.


Andre Evans

Andre LaVar Evans, 30, a longtime resident of Churchton died May 8 in Annapolis.

Mr. Evans was born May 21, 1977, in Maryland, to Wanda A. Powell of Glen Burnie and the late Sheldon Evans. He attended county public schools and earned a certificate in heating and air conditioning from Lincoln Tech.

Mechanically inclined, he enjoyed working on automobiles, especially race cars. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary and Isaiah Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Michele Evans; three stepchildren, Tiara Dunscomb and Nieko and Jayda White of Churchton; one brother, Seldon Sellman Jr. of Columbia; two sisters, Allison Evans of Glen Burnie and Sheldaria Sellman of the Eastern Shore; and his grandparents, Robert and Lillie Mae Powell of Churchton.

Family and friends may visit and a Christian wake will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow at Franklin United Methodist Church, 5345 Deale Churchton Road in Churchton. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., and interment will be in Adams United Methodist Church Cemetery. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.


Jerry Griffin

Jerry "Jerr Bear" Lynn Griffin, 22, a seven-year resident of Severna Park, died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident May 10. A full story ran in Monday's edition of The Capital.

Mr. Griffin was born Feb. 12, 1986, in Silver Spring to Brian and Lisa Bossone of Severna Park.

He worked as an apprentice electrician for Mona Electric.

He enjoyed his family and friends, and motorcycling.

Survivors include one brother, Dylan Nicolaus Griffin of Severna Park; and his grandparents, Lyndon Fisher of Stevenville and Barbara Fisher of Severna Park.

Family and friends may join in the celebration of his life at 11 a.m. Friday at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m., and interment will be private.


Lois Hunt

Lois M. Hunt, 82, of Naples, Fla., and previously of Annapolis for 21 years, died May 10 at North Collier Hospital in Naples after a long illness.

Mrs. Hunt was born May 8, 1926, in Baltimore.

She worked as a medical secretary for Arundel Medical Group in Glen Burnie.

She enjoyed reading and crosswords puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, E. Gilroy Hunt; and one sister, JoAnn Harman.

Survivors include one daughter, Christine P. Frank of Naples; one sister, Alma Vogt of New York; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit at noon Friday at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, 1 Second Ave. S.W. in Glen Burnie.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Glen Haven Memorial Park.

Kathleen McGurk

Kathleen "Sherry" Gable McGurk, 74, of Center City in Philadelphia and previously a 26-year resident of Severna Park, died May 10 at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia after a lengthy illness.

She was born May 10, 1934, in Shamokin, Pa., to the late Edward "Brick" and Kathleen Welsh Gable.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George R. McGurk Sr.

Survivors include three sons, George Raymond "Gary" McGurk Jr. and Michael Brennan McGurk Sr. of Severna Park and John Edward "John Ed" McGurk of Manhattan, N.Y.; two daughters, Kathleen Cecilia "K.C." Johansson of Pasadena and Genevieve Mary "GiGi" Harrison of Arnold; three brothers, Edward Gable of Washington, D.C., Maurice Gable of Pittsburgh and Joseph Gable of Philadelphia; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. John the Evangelist Church, 21 S. 13th St. in Philadelphia. A viewing will begin at 9 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Dinan Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Secular Franciscan Fraternity, care of St. John the Evangelist Church, 21 S. 13th St., Philadelphia, PA 19107.


Susan Weintraub

Susan Joan Gelber "Sue" Weintraub, 79, of Lindemore in Annapolis for 31 years, died of natural causes May 10 in Jerusalem, Israel, while visiting family.

Mrs. Weintraub was born Nov. 4, 1928, in Bridgeport, Conn., and graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia.

She worked as a medical technician at Temple University Hospital, then became a home maker and literary volunteer.

She was a member of Congregation Kol Ami.

She was a violinist, and enjoyed music, reading, crossword puzzles, and politics.

Survivors include her husband of over 50 years, William C. Weintraub; three daughters, Janet Gool of Beit Shemesh, Israel, Nancy Fineberg of Bowie and Sally Grobani of Baltimore; one brother, Stuart Gelber of Boca Raton, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Congregation Kol Ami, 1909 Hidden Meadow Lane. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Annapolis. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.
