Tuesday's obituaries recognize: Geaton Di Zebba Sr., Andrea MacQuillan, June Pettebone, Mark Steed, Ruth Suriano and  William Taylor

Geaton Di Zebba Sr.

Geaton Joseph Di Zebba Sr., 85, of Owings, died May 17 at Calvert Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born Gaetano Michele Di Zebba June 17, 1922, in Philadelphia, Mr. Di Zebba was raised in Washington, D.C. He attended McKinley Technical High School.

He served in the Army during World War II as a pilot of landing craft. He fought in the Pacific Theatre with the 594th Army Engineers, and achieved the rank of sergeant.

He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Parish of Washington, and later of Mount Calvary Parish of Forestville.

He founded and ran Di Zebba and Sons, Inc., a construction company serving as home builders and brick contractors in Washington and the Maryland suburbs and growing to specialize in custom homes.

Growing up, he spent his summers on the shores of the South River, where he learned to build wooden power boats. He enjoyed flying and building model remote control airplanes for several of the aviation clubs of Southern Maryland. He was a former member of the Sons of Italy.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Vincent and Freddy Di Zebba.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Patricia Ann Di Zebba; one son, Geaton J. Di Zebba Jr. of Annapolis; two daughters, Patricia Di Zebba of Alexandria, Va., and Maria Caridi of Laurel; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were by Lee Funeral Home in Owings.

Andrea MacQuillan

Andrea Jean MacQuillan, 42, a resident of Greenbelt for over 40 years, died of complications from diabetes May 6 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Ms. MacQuillan was born Nov. 19, 1965, in Greenbelt to Anthony MacQuillan of Las Vegas and the late Mary MacQuillan.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Teresa MacQuillan, who died in 1981.

Survivors include one brother, Alan MacQuillan of York, Pa.; and one sister, Jennifer MacQuillan of Odenton.

Funeral arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home in Las Vegas.

June Pettebone

June Joy Pettebone, 79, a resident of Easton for eight years and previously a longtime resident of Annapolis, died May 18 at the Talbot Hospice House in Easton after a short illness.

Mrs. Pettebone was born May 26, 1928, in Solomons Island to the late Verona Luther and Amy Mae Joy.

A homemaker, she worked for several years in admissions at Anne Arundel Community College.

She was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, and enjoyed the solitude of afternoon tea.

She was preceded in death in 1983 by her husband of almost 40 years, Charles William Pettebone.

Survivors include two sons, Robert J. Pettebone of Bel Air and C. David Pettebone of Severna Park; and one daughter, Lori Pettebone-Maatta of Gambrills.

Funeral services will be held at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church at a time and date to be determined. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601.

Mark Steed

Mark Christopher Steed, 50, a resident of Millersville for 12 years and previously of Crofton, died May 16 in his home.

Mr. Steed was born Jan. 10, 1958, at Ruislip Air Force Base in Middlesex, England, to Ruth Anne Steed of Millersville and the late William C. Steed Sr. He graduated from Arundel High School.

He worked for BGE in Piney Orchard.

Mr. Steed served as a petty officer 2nd class hospital corpsman in the Navy.

He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Club in Annapolis.

He was a gourmet cook and enjoyed gardening and collecting antique cars.

Survivors include two brothers, William C. Steed Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jeffrey B. Steed of Mount Airy; and one sister, Melissa Anne Shouk of Millersville.

A memorial gathering will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road in Gambrills.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church, 921 Generals Highway in Millersville. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Ruth Suriano

Ruth Agnes Crowe Suriano, 89, a resident of Millersville for over 15 years, died of complications from Alzehimer's disease May 16 at Family Home Care in Glen Burnie after a long illness.

Mrs. Suriano was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Chicago, where she was raised. She graduated from Loyola University there and earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a master's degree in social work from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

She retired from a position as a social worker in Arlington County, Va., and lived in various places as an Army spouse.

Mrs. Suriano enjoyed travel, was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and loved all the family dogs through the years. She would always work at the political polls in her precinct during elections.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Gronkiewicz of Millersville, Margaret Trossen of McLean, Va., and Mary Moore of Arlington Heights, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be offered at 5 p.m. May 27 at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave. in Millersville. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

William Taylor

William M. Taylor, 85, of Upper Marlboro, died May 13 at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton.

Mr. Taylor was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Atlanta, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Annie L. Taylor; four sons, William C. Taylor of Fort Washington, David L. Taylor of Clinton, Robert D. Taylor of Upper Marlboro and Wayne M. Taylor of Annapolis; three daughters, Barbara A. Robinson of Greenbelt, Gloria J. Taylor of Upper Marlboro and Christine B. Simmons of Los Angeles; 25 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 10 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 4901 14th St. N.W. in Washington, D.C. Interment will be in Washington National Cemetery in Suitland.

Arrangements were by Taylor Funeral Home of Washington.
