ANNAPOLIS — Anne Arundel and Howard counties plan to set up Maryland's first natural gas fueling station for trash trucks.
The neighboring counties have sought a $600,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to help haulers change over to alternative-fuel vehicles.
Officials are hopeful that the switch could aid the counties in dealing with the rising price of diesel fuel and cut down on emission of greenhouse gases.
Clean Energy Fuels Corporation is the company proposing to build the shared fueling station in Jessup. It operates some 180 natural gas stations across the country, including the one that fuels natural gas-powered buses at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
