Helen O'Brien
Helen S. O'Brien, 82, a resident of Bethesda for 50 years and recently of Severna Park, died of congestive heart failure July 18 in her daughter's home in Severna Park after a long illness.
Mrs. O'Brien was born Sept. 28, 1925, in Washington, D.C., to the late Edward and Edith Smith. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended George Washington University.
She was a performing dancer and taught exercise and dance.
She was a member of the Congressional Country Club, Christ Child Society and the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
She enjoyed ceramics and playing bridge.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph Vincent O'Brien, who died in 1992, and Robert K. Saunders, who died in World War II.
Survivors include five daughters, Carol Flanagan of Beltsville, Lynn Stringer of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mary Faye Font of Oakton, Va., Patti Child of Severna Park and Erin O'Brien of Little Washington, Va; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit from 4 to 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Child Residence, 419 Severnside Drive in Severna Park.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave. in Millersville. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
Internment will be Aug. 7 in the Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium. Family and friends should meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Administration Building.

Anderson Smith
Anderson Lewis "Andy" Smith, 52, a resident of Eastport for three years and previously of Edgewater, died of heart failure July 12 at the Mandarin Hospice House after an illness lasting six months.
Mr. Smith was born April 26, 1956, in Texas and attended St. John's College on and off through the years.
He was a retired sailing coach.
Mr. Smith loved the theater and opera. He enjoyed taking classes at St. John's, learning and thinking deeply, philosophy, mentoring and fine food. He also enjoyed sailing.
A memorial service will be held at a later date; arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.

John Williams Jr.
John Williams Jr., 83, a resident of Deale for over 20 years, died July 17 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Williams was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Washington, D.C., to the late Josephine C. and John Williams Sr. He graduated from Annapolis High School in 1942 and attended St. Johns College for one year.
He served as a staff sergeant in the Army from 1943 to 1945, serving with the 19th Armored Infantry Battalion, known as "The Liberators," under Gen. George Patton during the Battle of the Bulge.
He received the Purple Heart, the European Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, and the American Theater and Good Conduct Medals.
A baker, he owned York Pastry Shop on West Street for many years. When it closed in 1980, he worked for Safeway Bakery in Washington, D.C., and at the Naval Academy Bakery in Annapolis.
He retired from the Naval Academy as a machinist in 1988 and worked part-time in the tool departments at the former Hechinger and Sears stores in Annapolis.
He was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in Deale, where he served as trustee and was also a member of the building committee and Administrative Council. He was a member of the Masonic Centennial Lodge 174. A former Boy Scout, he was also an assistant scout master.
He enjoyed working with tools, repairing clocks and reading.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Tora Williams Dobbins.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ida Mae Williams; two brothers, William Williams of Virginia and Robert Williams of Colorado; and one sister, Anne Bajus of Annapolis.
Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mt. Harmony Lane in Owing.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, 753 Masons Beach Road in Deale. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Gardens in Dunkirk.

Eugene Wugofski
Incorrect information was submitted in the obituary for Eugene Theodore "Wugo" Wugofski, 72, of Annapolis in Thursday's edition of The Capital.
Mr. Wugofski served in Korea from 1973 to 1974, not during the Korean War.
