Lawrence Brown Jr.
Lawrence Theodore "Duff" Brown Jr., 71, of Capitol Heights and previously of Annapolis, died July 21 in his home.
Mr. Brown was born July 6, 1937, in Annapolis to the late Marion Elizabeth Turner and Lawrence Theodore "Snake" Brown Sr. He graduated from Bates High School in 1956 and attended the University of South Carolina on a football scholarship and Virginia Common Wealth University.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores R. Bell; one brother, Vincent Brown; and two sisters, Carolyn Davis and Delores Kirby.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Brown III of Glen Burnie and Russell Brown of North Carolina; four daughters, Leslie Brown-Bonilla of Annapolis, Marion "Tea" Freeze of Virginia, Nephakeda Brown of Glen Burnie and Leren Brown of Baltimore; two brothers, Kenneth "Kenny" Brown of Lanham and Richard "Dick" Brown of Annapolis; three sisters, Patricia "Pat" Gill of Annapolis, Christy Jones of Arnold and Francis Rose of Baltimore; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, followed by a service at 11 a.m. at Reese and Sons Mortuary, 821 West St. A meal will follow at 16 Silopanna Road.
Valerie Hall
Valerie Denise Hall, 43, of Annapolis, died July 23 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Hall was born Dec. 17, 1964, in Annapolis to the late Edith Christine and Charles E. Parker Sr. She graduated from Southern Senior High School in 1982.
She was a manager in the food service industry prior to her illness.
Mrs. Hall enjoyed listening to music, watching television, playing cards and dominoes with her husband and making everyone laugh.
She was preceded in death by one son, Brad Ravenstroff.
Survivors include her husband, John A. Hall; one brother, Charles E. Parker Jr. of Severn; and two sisters, Laura D. Parker of Annapolis and Amanda R. Williams of Severn.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at First Christian Community Church of Annapolis, 1800 Apostle Johnson Way. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.
Yvonne Johnson
Yvonne Matildia Johnson, 70, a lifelong resident of Annapolis, died of ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease July 22 at the Hospice of Chesapeake in Harwood after a five-month illness.
Ms. Johnson was born July 4, 1938, in Annapolis and graduated from the former Wiley H. Bates High School in 1956.
She worked for the state for 31 years and part time at Hecht's for 20 years. She was also an Avon representative for 36 years.
She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Bannaker Douglas and Annapolis Roads Neighborhood Watch.
She enjoyed watching and attending sporting events, particularly football, flag football, basketball and baseball.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Franklin Johnson; and one sister, Gloria Graham.
Survivors include one son, Keith A. Johnson of Glen Burnie; three daughters, Dawn R. Johnson-Tate of Baltimore, Camillia A. Johnson of Glen Burnie and Patrice M. Simms of Crofton; two brothers, John A. Makell Jr. of Crownsville and James Makell of Annapolis; four sisters, Betty Coleman, Patricia Brown and Deborah Gideon of Annapolis and Mirium Henson of Staten Island, N.Y.; and two granddaughters.
Family and friends may visit from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Reese and Sons Mortuary, 821 West St.
A Christian wake will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 612 Second St.

Melvin Pough
Melvin Louis Pough, 55, of Severn, died July 20 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, Wash.
Mr. Pough was born Dec. 17, 1952, in Atlantic City, N.J., to the late Leroy and Gwendolyn Pough.
He attended the Living Waters in Odenton, where he became a Christian, and later attended New Shiloh Baptist Church in Baltimore.
He loved people and his Lord and was a friend to all who knew him, his family said.
Survivors include one brother, Dennis Pough of Washington, D.C.; and two sisters, Sandra Hayes of Tacoma and Christine Garrison of Severn.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jesus Lives Ministry, 7466 New Ridge Road in Hanover. Arrangements are by Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory.
Jane Proctor
Jane Marie Proctor, 78, a resident of Annapolis, died July 17 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mrs. Proctor was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Warrenton, Va., to the late Chancellor Shumate and Rachel Marie Moreland Shumate.
She was preceded in death by one son, retired Navy Capt. John Stephen Proctor.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Retired Navy Cmdr. Arthur Edwin Proctor; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 4 in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Moser Funeral Home.

Betty Raynor
Betty V. Raynor, 79, a lifelong resident of Pasadena, died July 22 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Raynor was born April 19, 1929, in Lake Shore to the late Henry A. and Emma L. Williams. She graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1947.
She was a member of the Pioneers with C&P Telephone Company and considered an honorary member of the Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Company. She was also a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church
A homemaker, Mrs. Raynor enjoyed caring for her grandchildren.
Mrs. Raynor was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Edwin "Boots" Raynor; two brothers, William and Henry A. Williams Jr.; and one sister, Elizabeth Schmidl.
Survivors include three sons, Guy E. Raynor of California, and Wade E. and Reid H. Raynor of Pasadena; one daughter, Leigh A. Hauf of Preston; two sisters, Emma L. Bortner of Pasadena and H. Millicent Heath of Glen Burnie; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road in Pasadena.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, 4760 Mountain Road in Pasadena. Interment in Glen Haven Memorial Park will follow services.
