Katherine Chapman 

Katherine L. Chapman, 85, of Lothian and formerly of Annapolis died Aug. 2 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Mrs. Chapman was born May 16, 1923, in Washington, D.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Chapman.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Callahan of Florida and Susan Harmon of Lothian; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Southern Memorial Gardens in Dunkirk.

Charles Goldstein

Charles Goldstein, 78, of Silver Spring and previously of Crofton died July 25 in his home.

Mr. Goldstein was born June 19, 1930, in Chicago.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Lynn Mesmer Goldstein; two daughters, Sharon Goldstein Puckett of Crofton and Anita Goldstein Campbell of Chestertown; one son, Stuart Goldstein of Pikesville; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 28 in Silver Spring.

Edward Peeler

Edward E. "Ed" Peeler, 93, of Stillwater, Okla., and previously of Severna Park for about seven years, a retired lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserve, died of natural causes July 30 at Judith Karman Hospice in Stillwater

Lt. Col. Peeler was born May 7, 1915, in Elk City, Okla., to the late Montie Penniston and Paul Emerson Peeler Sr.

He earned a bachelor's degree from the School of Commerce at the former Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College at Stillwater in 1938, where he participated in the ROTC program, was a member of the Scabbard and Blade military honor fraternity and received the Drummond Saber award in 1938.

During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps from 1941 until 1946, then continued to serve as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserve until 1975.

He ran Peeler Hardware until 1956, and worked for the Community Hospital and for Western Lumber before joining the First National Bank in 1959.

He was active in Elk City civic affairs. He was a member of the Kiwanis from 1946 to the present, serving several terms as an officer. He was also a member of the American Legion, and held several offices with the United Fund, the Elk City Chamber of Commerce, and the Boy Scouts.

He loved to travel, visiting Mexico, Egypt, India, and China, as well as numerous places in the United States.

He was preceded in death in 1952 by his first wife of almost 10 years, Frances Clare Hurley; in 1993 by his second wife of almost 40 years, Leona Mae Waller Tomlinson; one stepson, Johnny Walter Tomlinosn; one stepdaughter, Lee Ann Tomlinson Coffman; and five siblings.

Survivors include one son, David Peeler of Millersville; two daughters, Helen Clements of Stillwater and Catherine Vadovic of Culver City, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Peeler Hall of Little Rock, Ark., and Gordon Peeler Jordon of Fort Smith, Ark.; and five grandchildren.

Lillian Tyler

Lillian Foreman Tyler, 87, of Crofton died July 31 at Crofton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

Ms. Tyler was born Sept. 11, 1920, in Pitt County, N.C., to the late Andrew and Lillie Ward Foreman. She attended area schools in Farmville, N.C., and moved to Annapolis in the mid 1940s.

She worked for the Naval Academy, the former Annapolis Federal Bank, the old Britt's Department Store and the Community Action Agency of Anne Arundel County.

She was a member of Mount Moriah A.M.E. Church for over fifty years, and served on the Trustee Board, Hospitality Club and the Women's Club.

She enjoyed traveling and social gatherings with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby and Johnnie C. Petteway; four brothers, Harrison, Frank, Raymond and Andrew Foreman; and four sisters, Emma K. Smith, Nannie Mae Bullock and Evangeline and Mamie Foreman.

Survivors include her former husbands, James Parker Jr. and Richard Tyler; one brother, Joseph Foreman; two godchildren who took care of her, Clifton A. Johnson Sr. and Eloise Baden; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.

A Christian wake will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m., at Mount Moriah A.M.E. Church, 2204 Bay Ridge Ave.
