Earl Buckwalter
Retired Navy Capt. Earl Buckwalter, 87, of Austin, Texas, and formerly of Annapolis, died Aug. 6.
Capt. Buckwalter was born Oct. 1, 1920, in West Chester, Pa., to the late Charles and Katherine Buckwalter. He attended West Chester High School and graduated from the Naval Academy in 1943.
He served in the Navy for 30 years, with commands on destroyers in Japan and the Pacific. He retired as commander of the Naval Station at Key West in 1972.
He enjoyed fishing in the Gulf, participating in community affairs and traveling to Annapolis for each football season.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Jenkins Buckwalter; and one sister, Marion Huey.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan Gilead of Annapolis, Christie Binkley of Austin and Nancy Buckwalter of Maui; one brother, Charles Buckwalter of New York City; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 24 at the Naval Academy Columbarium.

Lucille Cicero
Lucille M. Rapisarda Cicero, 96, of Bowie, died Aug. 10 in her home.
Mrs. Cicero was born May 12, 1912, in Baltimore.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis N. Cicero.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Hamilton of Crofton and Jeanette Mastromarino of Milton, Del.; one brother, Philip Rapisarda of Towson; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Paul Fletcher
Paul Thomas Fletcher, 68, of Stevensville, died Aug. 11 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mr. Fletcher was born June 30, 1940, in Hallwood, Va., to the late Paul W. and Margaret Tate Fletcher. He was raised in Baltimore.
He worked as a barber in Baltimore, then as a tractor-trailer driver. He retired in 2002.
Mr. Fletcher served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1965.
He was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church and the Father Joseph G. McManus Council 7941, where he established the Youth Archery Program. He was a Maryland Broadhead Archery Champion for two consecutive years and a member of the American Legion Post 278.
He enjoyed woodworking and archery.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and Ronnie Fletcher.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Fletcher; one son, Timothy P. Fletcher of Stevensville; one sister, Lynn Fletcher of Michigan; and one grandson.

Richard Gins Sr.
Richard James Gins Sr., 72, of Annapolis, died Aug. 10 at the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood.
Mr. Gins was born Feb. 22, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Florence Thompson Gins Diffenderfer of Severna Park and the late Alfred Gins.
He worked as a boilermaker and retired from Local Union 193. He was the founder of the Mid-Atlantic Recycle Center Inc. of Annapolis.
Mr. Gins served in the Coast Guard for a year and in the Air Force from 1958 to 1962.
He was a charter member of the Severna Park United Methodist Church and was a member of American Legion Post 7 and Moose Lodge 296.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling and volunteering.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Gins.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Gins of Annapolis; one son, Richard James Gins Jr. of Severna Park; two daughters, Linda Wynn of St. Leonard and Judy Robertson of Arnold; one sister, Siretta Riley of Edgewater; and ten grandchildren.

Joseph Hamner Jr.
Joseph Edward Hamner Jr., 59, of Sicklerville, N.J., and formerly of Annapolis, died Aug. 8 in his home.
Mr. Hamner was born Nov. 12, 1948, in Washington, D.C., to the late Mildred and Joseph Hamner Sr.
He served in the Army from 1969 until 1980.
He worked for a Home Depot team as a safety coordinator.
Survivors include his former wife, Ithama Hamner of Georgia; one son, Joseph Hamner III of Annapolis; and one daughter, Teeia Phillips of Georgia.

Helen Lehtonen
Helen Lehtonen, 90, a resident of Crofton for 42 years, died of natural causes Aug. 9 at Annapolitan Assisted Living.
Mrs. Lehtonen was born March 4, 1918, in Huntington, N.Y., and graduated from Northport High School.
She worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance and Long and Foster Realtors.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing tennis and bridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Leo Lehtonen; two sons, Gary and Greg Lehtonen; and one sister, Sylvia Henaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Gail Tennant of Ocean City; one brother, Ted Koski of Long Island, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

Phyllis Olsavsky
Phyllis Marie Olsavsky, 82, of Lothian, died July 28 in her home.
Mrs. Olsavsky was born Jan. 12, 1926, in Washington, D.C., to the late Chester T. and Pearl McKay Green.
She worked as a secretary and administrative assistant for an elevator company in Prince George's County, retiring in the 1980s. She previously lived on a cattle farm in Anne Arundel County.
She was a member of Smithville United Methodist Church in Dunkirk and attended a Bible study at Trinity Episcopal Church in Upper Marlboro.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening and tending to her pond-raised goldfish. She also enjoyed playing piano, entertaining and parties.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Francis Olsavsky; and one sister, Mary Mildred Harrison.
Funeral services were held Aug. 1. Arrangements were by Rausch Funeral Home.
Lola Patrick
Lola Conte Patrick, 80, a resident of Crofton for 26 years, died of Alzheimer's disease Aug. 9 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after an eight-year illness.
Mrs. Patrick was born Nov. 5, 1927, in Hyndman, Pa. She became a registered nurse through the Sacred Heart Nurse in Cumberland.
She retired as an operating nursing room manager at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., after 40 years.
Everyone she knew was her "best friend," her family said. She was a member of Chi Sigma Sorority.
Survivors include her husband, J. Byron Patrick; one son, Richard Conte of Clarksville; two daughters, Joette Waters of Mt. Airy and Nancy Dawson of Davidsonville; three stepsons, Robert Patrick of Riva, Scott Patrick of Crofton and Thomas Patrick of Gambrills; and six grandchildren.

Aaron Reaves
Aaron Hampton Reaves, 21, a resident of Kennesaw, Ga., for eight years and a midshipman at the Naval Academy, died of injuries sustained in a car accident July 28 in Caroline County, Va.
Midshipman Reaves was born Aug. 21, 1986, in Portsmouth, Va., to retired Navy Cmdr. Joel C. and Madelyn Reaves of Kennesaw.
He graduated from North Cobb High School in Kennesaw in 2004 and entered the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, R.I. He was a member of the Class of 2009 at the Naval Academy, where he was an English major.
He ran varsity track and cross country in high school and earned several awards, such as Most Valuable Player and Best Distance. He also participated in the NJROTC program, where he was the Cadet Company Commander.
He was a member of the House of God Church in Avondale Estates, Ga.
He enjoyed distance running and video games.
Survivors include two brothers, Joel Reaves II of Tucker, Ga., and Jon M. Ware of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Catherine Reaves of Marietta, Ga., and Chandra Brown of Baltimore; his grandfather, Durrie Reaves of Plant City, Fla.; and his great-grandmother, Rose E. Anderson of Ft. Washington.
Family and friends may visit from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Funeral services will be held at noon Monday in the Naval Academy Chapel. Vincent Scoglio
Vincent Thomas "Vinnie" Scoglio, 24, a two-year resident of Glen Burnie and previously of Edgewater, died suddenly Aug. 9 in his home.
Mr. Scoglio was born Dec. 13, 1983, in Cheverly to Anthony T. and Pamela J. Scoglio of Edgewater. He graduated from Southern High School in Harwood and attended Anne Arundel Community College.
He was a shift manager at Starbucks in Edgewater and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Lothian.
He enjoyed music, art, literature and poetry and was the lead vocalist and lead guitarist for a band, The Traumas. A songwriter, poet and artist, he was voted the most talented in his class in high school.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dorothy Maxwell and Robert S. Bell Jr.
Survivors include four brothers, Michael A. Scoglio of Silver Spring and Robert D., John C. and James Jay Scoglio of Edgewater; and his grandparents, R.D. Scoglio of Gainesville, Fla., and Dorothy Bell of Kettering.
A celebration of his life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 122 Bayard Road in Lothian. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Frank Stoner
Frank Stoner, 75, a 34-year resident of Annapolis, died of cancer Aug. 12 in his home after a brief illness.
Mr. Stoner was born April 15, 1933, in Canton, Ohio.
He served in the Army for 20 years, serving in Korea and Germany.
He enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Margaret L. Stoner; two sons, Allen Stoner of Glen Burnie and Glenn Stoner of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Dawn Meiklejohn of Denton; one sister, Della M. Peterson of Hawaii; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Henry Tyler
Henry Edward Tyler, 70, a lifelong resident of Annapolis, died Aug. 8 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mr. Tyler was born Jan. 4, 1938, in Annapolis to the late James Henry and Martha Green Tyler, and attended county schools.
He served in the Air Force for two years and was honorably discharged.
He was known for his wisdom and humor and knew many people throughout Annapolis, his family said.
Survivors include two brothers and one sister.
