Dorothy Brown
Dorothy Simpson "Dottie" Brown, 90, of Lewes, Del., for four years and previously of Bowie and Kent Island, died Aug. 24 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Brown was born Sept. 8, 1917, in Washington, D.C., to the late James Carroll and Lillian K. Simpson. She graduated from Roosevelt High School.
She was active in hospice and a charter volunteer of Estate Treasures and a member of the Kent Island Yacht Club in Chester.
She was an avid bridge player, ardent chicken-necker, a creative gardener and the ultimate hostess, her family said.
Survivors include her husband, Warren Dale Brown Jr.; two daughters, Carolyn B. Wilson of Crofton and Joy E. Bohan of Dewey Beach, Del.; two brothers, William A. "Buck" Simpson of Springfield, Va., and James C. Simpson of LaPlata; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Family and friends may visit at 10 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m., at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, King Charles and Laurel streets in Rehoboth Beach, Del. Interment is private. Arrangements are by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium in Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriot's Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Catherine Finn
Catherine A. "Kay" Woods Finn, 84, of Severna Park for three years and previously of Brooklyn Park and Linthicum, died Aug. 24 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mrs. Finn was born May 6, 1924, in Lonaconing in Allegany County to the late Bernard T. and Jane E. Woods.
A homemaker, she was very active with St. Philip Neri Cathbolic Church in Linthicum, was a member of the St. Martin's Auxiliary of the Little Sisters of the Poor and volunteered at the St. Martin's Home in Catonsville., She was also a member of Court Mother Seton of the Catholic Daughters of America.
She loved music and sang in the church choir. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed gardening, shopping and decorating during the Christmas season.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Joseph T. Finn.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph M. and James B. Finn of Ferndale and Michael J. Finn of Crofton; two daughters, Catherine Finn Dixon and Marnette A. Finn of Severna Park; three brothers, Bernard Paul Woods of Frederick, Robert Woods of Oakland and James Woods of Cumberland; and two grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Philip Neri Church, 6401 South Orchard Road in Linthicum. Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.

Anne-Marie Lavoie
Anne-Marie Johnson Lavoie, 60, a resident of Annapolis for 20 years, died of complications from Guillain-Barre syndrome Aug. 21 at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center after a 9-month illness.
Mrs. Lavoie was born Nov. 22, 1947, in South Weymouth, Mass., and earned an associate's degree in business administration from New Hampshire College.
She worked at the Naval Academy.
She enjoyed watching sailboat races on Wednesday evenings in downtown Annapolis and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of almost 40 years, Louie John Lavoie; two daughters, Adina Marie Lavoie of Bowie and Christine Louise Will of Chestertown; one brother, Joseph F. Johnson of Concord, N.H.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Naval Academy Chapel. Interment is private. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.

Vernon Martinez
Retired Navy Lt. Cmdr. Vernon Marks Martinez, 46, a resident of Arnold for seven years and previously of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, died unexpectedly of heart failure Aug. 24 in his home.
Lt. Cmdr. Martinez was born Nov. 11, 1961, in Everux, France, to LaVerne Rich Martinez of Mount Holly, N.J., and the late Jerris C. Martinez. He graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly and the Naval Academy in 1984 and attended the Naval Postgraduate School in California.
He served as a surface warfare officer in the Navy for 20 years, retiring in 2004, and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and two Defense Service Medals. His final assignment was as instructor and football officer representative at the Naval Academy.
He worked as a senior engineering specialist for Man Tech International Corp. for four years.
He attended Bay Area Community Church and was a member of Mount Holly Elks Lodge 848.
He enjoyed football, baseball, cards and golf.
Survivors include his fiance, Lisa Gregoire of Arnold; one daughter, Caitlin Martinez of Annapolis; one brother, Dana C. Martinez of Toms River, N.J.; and one sister, Cheryl Breitzman of Galloway, N.J.
Family and friends may visit from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Naval Academy Chapel; those attending should enter through Gate 8. Interment will be in Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in New Jersey.
