Wednesday's obituaries recognize: James Booker Jr., Annette Contardi, Mary D'Anna, Barbara DeCoste, Robert Garrison Jr., Julia McLeod, Herbert Phillips, Frances Sander, Robert Seaton, Mary Stotler, Mildred Troupe and Kristeena Williams

James Booker Jr. 

James William "Jim" Booker Jr., 87, of Pasadena for three years and previously of Linthicum for 84 years, died of congestive heart failure Aug. 25 at Pear Tree Assisted Living after a brief illness.

Mr. Booker was born May 26, 1921, in Baltimore and attended county schools.

He worked as a diesel mechanic for Matlack Trucking,

He served in the Marines during World War II, from 1942 until he was injured on Saipan in 1946.

He was a member of the Masonic Order, Howard Lodge, Glen Burnie Elks and St. John's Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita G. Christman Booker; and two brothers, Henry and William Booker.

Survivors include one son, James "Jim" W. Booker III; one daughter, Linda Booker McCabe; one brother, Robert "Bob" Booker; one sister, Eunice Morris of Linthicum; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, 1 Second Ave. S.W. in Glen Burnie.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Interment will be in Meadowridge Memorial Gardens.

Annette Contardi

Annette Andrea Contardi, 69, of Gambrills, died of lung cancer Aug. 25 at her home after a two year illness.

Mrs. Contardi was born Nov. 13, 1938, in Pittsburgh to the late Michael and Anna Ciongoli. She graduated from Turtle Creek High School and Business Training College and Point Park College in Pittsburgh.

She ran a medical transcription business and worked for over 25 years for the government, retiring as an analyst for the National Security Agency.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, solving puzzles and the theatre.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Kenneth Contardi; two sons, Craig Contardi of Alexandria, Va., and Kevin Contardi of New Market; and seven grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory, 1411 Annapolis Road in Odenton. A funeral Mass will be offered at noon Friday at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave. in Millersville; a luncheon will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 825 Hammonds Ferry Road, Suites H-J, Linthicum, MD 21090.

Mary D'Anna

Mary D'Anna, 92, a resident of Severna Park for 45 years, died of natural causes Aug. 26 at Genesis Nursing Center.

Mrs. D'Anna was born June 29, 1916, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Michael and Tille Myczkoski. She attended the Cleveland Institute of Art and earned a bachelor's degree from Case Western Reserve University.

She was an art teacher in the Akron Public School System.

Mrs. D'Anna was a member of Chartwell Garden Club and Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church. She taught classes at the YWCA in Severna Park.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed travel.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jacob, John and Paul McKosky; and two sisters, Ann Williams and Julia Stephens.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Peter W. D'Anna; one son, Richard J. D'Anna of Glen Burnie; and one daughter, Dorothy L. D'Anna of Gambrills.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave. in Millersville. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Barbara DeCoste

Barbara Lee "Babs" DeCoste, 68, a resident of Annapolis for 11 years, died of complications from diabetes Aug. 24 in her home.

Ms. DeCoste was born Aug. 26, 1939, in Washington, D.C., to the late Helen and Kenneth Mullican. She graduated from High Point High School in 1958.

She worked in the admissions department at the University of Maryland, University College, from 1988 to 2004 and received the President's Award.

She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church and loved painting and the ocean.

Survivors include two daughters, Theresa Rowland of Annapolis and Michelle Phibbons of Davidsonville; one brother, John Mullican of Sykesville; one sister, Millie Freaner of Ocala, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.

A Mass of Christian burial will the offered at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Road in Annapolis. Interment will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens.

Robert Garrison Jr.

Robert Lee "Bob" Garrison Jr., 89, a resident of Edgewater since 1973 and a summer resident since 1945, died of congestive heart failure Aug. 24 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Mr. Garrison was born Nov. 24, 1918, in Washington, D.C., graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and earned a degree in electrical engineering from the Radio and Television Institute.

He spent most of his working life as a security analyst with the Inspector General's office, and received several citations for outstanding performance.

He served in the Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Garrison of Edgewater.

A celebration of his life will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at noon Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Road in Edgewater. Interment will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Memorial program, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.

Julia McLeod

Julia Simpson McLeod, 83, a resident of Severna Park for 53 years, died Aug. 24 at Genesis ElderCare Nursing Home after a long illness.

Mrs. McLeod was born April 25, 1925, in Baltimore, where she was raised.

She enjoyed bowling and travelling and was a member of Severna Park United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband of over 60 years, Daniel B. McLeod Jr.; one son, Daniel B. McLeod III; a daughter, Doris Vose; one granddaughter; and three great-grandsons.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church, 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD 21146.

Herbert Phillips

Herbert Edward "Herb" Phillips, 77, of Venice, Fla., and formerly of Millersville, died Aug. 25 in his home.

Mr. Phillips was born Feb. 8, 1931, in Baltimore to the late Herbert R. and Lillian Bush Phillips.

He worked for Lever Brothers Co. in Baltimore for 32 years before retiring in 1990.

He served in the Navy for four years during the Korean War.

He was a member of the Glen Burnie Masonic Lodge 213 F&AM of Maryland, the Venice Shrine Club, the Sahib Shrine in Sarasota, the Venice American Legion Post 159, the Veterabs of Foreign Wars Post 8118, and formerly of the Waterford Golf Club.

He enjoyed golf, bridge, and making new friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Phillips.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Shirley Phillips; one son, Brian Phillips of Rimrock, Ariz.; and one daughter, Julie Turner of Queenstown.

Family and friends may visit from 9 a.m. until the funeral begins at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Farley Funeral Home in Venice. Interment will follow at Venice Memorial Gardens.

Frances Sander

Frances M. "Dubby" Crawford Sander, 82, a life-long resident of Odenton, died of Alzheimer's disease Aug. 25 at Crofton Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Sander was born May 18, 1926, in Odenton to the late Fielder and Lillian Clark Crawford. She graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1943.

She worked for the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C., from 1943 until she transferred to Fort George G. Meade in 1945. After her marriage, she worked with her husband on his farm and as a school bus driver for area bus services.

She was a lifelong and active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Woodwardville and the Forks of the Patuxent Improvement Association. She was an election judge volunteer and served as a Chief Judge.

She enjoyed boating and fishing on the Chesapeake Bay with her husband, and was known for delivering fresh fish and pickled vegetables to her friends.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Melvin "Fritz" Sander; one daughter, Linda M. Egolf of Odenton; and two sisters, Margaret E. Hornbeck of Severna Park and Mildred L. Akers of Severn.

Family and friends may visit from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, 1 Second Ave. S.W. in Glen Burnie.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will be in Meadowridge Memorial Park.

Robert Seaton

Robert Nelson Seaton, 91, a resident of Pasadena since 1968, died of natural causes Aug. 25 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Mr. Seaton was born June 23, 1917, in Wakeeney, Kan.

He worked as a home builder during the 1940s and 1950s, then opened Lorrine's Lunch on Camp Meade Road in Linthicum. In 1975, he opened Lorrine's Jewel Box is Pasadena.

He served in the Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and other numerous medals and awards.

He was an avid reader.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Garrett Seaton, who died in 2007.

Survivors include his wife, Jewell L. Lewis Seaton; one son, Clyde Bernard Sprinkle of Shelbyville, Tenn.; one daughter, Dana Lou Fischer of Linthicum; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the funeral begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway.

Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mary Stotler

Mary Zambrano Stotler, 86, of Hanover for three years, died Aug. 21 in her home after a long illness.

Mrs. Stotler was born March 6, 1922, in San Antonio, Texas, and lived most of her life in California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Stotler.

Survivors include three daughters, Cynthia Mitzman, Cheryl Stotler and Tamara Reynolds; one sister, Guadalupe Zambrano of Hanover; and six grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mildred Troupe

Mildred Elizabeth "Millie" Kirby Troupe, 93, a resident of Annapolis for five years and previously of Towson, died of natural causes Aug. 23 at Ginger Cove Health Center.

Mrs. Troupe was born March 9, 1915, in St. Mary's County, and attended Towson High School and Strayer Business College.

She worked for the Tas-T-Nut Co. in Baltimore, and retired as an administrative secretary for the assistant superintendent of Baltimore County Schools in 1979.

She was a member of Asquith Presbyertian Church for 37 years, then of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Annapolis.

She was devoted to her family, and loved to travel, spend time with friends, and attending Bible studies. She loved her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Eugene T. Troupe; three brothers, Wilbur H. and G. Wilson Kirby and John Calvin; and one sister, Edith M. Weeks.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Jean Strong of Stevensville; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 710 Ridgely Ave. Interment will be private.

Kristeena Williams

Kristeena Diana Williams, 36, of Annapolis died Aug. 21 at Weinberg Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Ms. Williams was born Dec. 25, 1971, to Vnetta Williams of Annapolis and Bernard Williams of Baltimore.

She worked at the Providence Center for two years.

Survivors include one brother, Bernard Williams Jr. of Annapolis; and one sister Brandon E. Williams of Annapolis.

Family and friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral begins at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Reese and Sons Mortuary, 821 West St. in Annapolis.
