Friday's obituaries recognize: Fontaine Disney, Howard Hartman, Connie Penne

Fontaine Disney 

Fontaine Maury "Buddy" Disney, 70, a lifetime resident of Chesapeake Beach, died of natural causes Aug. 27 at Calvert Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Disney was born April 22, 1938, in Washington, D.C., and graduated from Calvert High School.

He was the retired president and owner of CPM Construction Co.

Mr. Disney served in the Army.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 206 in Chesapeake Beach, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and decoy carving.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Disney.

Survivors include one daughter, Michelle D. Petitbon of Annapolis; two sisters, Janet Greenwell of Chesapeake Beach and Maureen Green of Fairfax, Va.; and three grandsons.

A celebration of his life will be held from 2 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Howard Hartman

Howard Hartman, 87, of Marietta, Ga., and previously of Annapolis, died Aug. 28 in his home.

Mr. Hartman was born Dec. 8, 1920, in Minneapolis, Minn., and graduated from Ohio State University.

He served as a bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II with the 456th Bomb Group, 15th Air Force, near Foggia, Italy. He was shot down on April 3, 1944, and was a prisoner of war for 13 months at Stalag Luft 1 in Germany until his camp was liberated by the Russian Army in May 1945.

He was the mid-Atlantic district manager at Kennecott Copper Corp., and was moved to Washington, D.C., in 1971 to represent the corporation to Congress.

After he retired, he worked as assistant director for the Department of Aging in Anne Arundel County until 1987, when he continued to volunteer with the elderly and disabled veterans.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Knight Cox Hartman.

Survivors include one son, John Howard Hartman of Arnold; two daughters, Carolyn Cox Jerdan and Kathryn Ann Hartman of Marietta; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held with full military honors at 3 p.m. Nov. 17 at Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are by H.M. Patterson and Son's Canton Hill Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a memorial for American former prisoners-of-war at Andersonville Trust, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, GA 31711.

Connie Penne

Connie L. Penne, 52, of Cape St. Claire, died Aug. 17 in Punxsutawney, Pa.

Mrs. Penne was born Jan. 5, 1956, in Punxsutawney to the late Francis and Anna Belle Neal Seeley. She graduated from Houghton College in New York.

She was the vice president of membership marketing with the National Business Aviation Association in Washington, D.C. Previously, she worked in publishing, advertising and marketing.

She was devoted to her family and supportive of her children's activities. She also enjoyed the beach, reading, writing and visiting family. She was the pianist for church services at Future Care Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Noah Penne; two brothers, James and Daniel Seeley; and two sisters, Joan Weaver and Lois Seeley.

Survivors include her husband, David Penne; two sons, Jonah and Luke Penne of Cape St. Claire; one daughter, Brooke Penne of Cape St. Claire; one brother, Gary Seeley of Philadelphia; and one sister, Debbie Beatty of Punxsutawney.

Funeral services and interment were in Punxsutawney. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at College Parkway Baptist Church, 301 College Parkway in Arnold. A gathering will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Christmas Child, care of the Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.
