A man was shot to death outside a Glen Burnie apartment building last night.

Residents of the Woodside Apartments called county police just before midnight and reported hearing gunshots, said Sgt. John Gilmer, a county police spokesman.

When officers arrived, they found a man lying on the ground in the parking lot with at least one gunshot wound, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not identified the man, Sgt. Gilmer said. He was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore, where fingerprinting and other techniques will be used to identify him. Detectives also are interviewing residents of the apartment community hoping someone knows the man.

Witnesses told investigators, just after the shooting they saw a vehicle with four men inside speeding from Woodside Apartments. Officers stopped a vehicle nearby and arrested the four men inside, Sgt. Gilmer said.

Investigators have interviewed all four men, and said they believe the men are connected to the homicide.

"At this point, we do believe we have the shooter," Sgt. Gilmer said. "We are anticipating charging at least one of the men."

Their names were not available, pending charges.

This is the fifth homicide in the county this year. Last year, county police investigated 12 homicides.

The Woodside Apartment complex was quiet this morning. A large watermark could be seen in a parking lot at the crime scene, where a hose had obviously been sprayed.

Residents were surprised to hear about the shooting, and several said the violent killing may prompt them to move out.

Sherri Robins, who has lived at Woodside Apartments for four years, said she's never had problems with her section of the community near the rental office. But younger residents live in the back buildings of the community, and she said she has seen police cars drive back there several times.

"I think in the back there's more teenagers," she said. "So, there's more trouble."
