Saturday's obituaries recognize: Dorothy Lewis and Marlene Whitner

Dorothy Lewis 

Dorothy M. Lewis, 82, of Berlin and previously a longtime resident of Annapolis, died Sept. 4 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

Mrs. Lewis was born April 23, 1926, in Washington, D.C., to the late William Earl and Olive Weaver Crowl.

She and her husband were the owners of Frank Gumpert Printing Co. in Annapolis for 15 years.

She was member of St. Matthews-by-the-Sea United Methodist Church, and founded the Henry's Mill Prayer Group.

She loved to golf, crochet, knit and go on cruises, but most of all she loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry "Hank" Lewis; one brother; and three sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna McCloskey of Berlin and Diane Meade and Dorothy Hall of Annapolis; one sister, Elsie West of Daytona Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at St. Matthews-by-the-Sea United Methodist Church, 1000 Ocean Highway in Fenwick Island, Del., and friends may call one hour prior to the service.

A second viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave., and friends may gather at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday to proceed to the interment in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville. Arrangements are by Burbage Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or to St. Matthew's-by-the-Sea United Methodist Church, 1000 Ocean Highway, Fenwick Island, DE 19944.

Marlene Whitner

Marlene D. Whitner, 28, of Millersville died suddenly Sept. 2 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center after a brief illness.

Ms. Whitner was born Oct. 31, 1979, in Washington, D.C.

Survivors include her mother, Drucilla Whitner; and one brother, John Whitner.

Family and friends may visit from 3 to 5 p.m. tomorrow at Reese and Sons Mortuary, 821 West St. A Christian wake will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Empowering Believers Church of the Apostolic Faith, 7566 East Howard Road in Glen Burnie. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Glen Burnie.
