Friday's obituaries recognize: Martha Bailey, Shirley Davis, Edward Dunn, David Kerr, Robert Lucke Sr., Randall Powell, Eugenie Richmond, Ruth Smith and Nathan Vaughn

Martha Bailey

Martha Graham Bailey, 87, a resident of Severna Park for 47 years, died of natural causes Sept. 12 at United Medical Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Bailey born April 23, 1921, in Philadelphia, where she was raised.

A homemaker, she lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, for seven years and Pittsburgh for eight years.

She was an animal rights advocate and enjoyed travelling.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Herbert Bailey, whom she married in 1945.

Survivors include one son, Carl Bailey of Severna Park.

Interment will be private. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.

Shirley Davis

Shirley Mary Davis, 77, a resident of Severna Park for over 20 years, died of natural causes Sept. 17 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Mrs. Davis was born Dec. 15, 1930, in Houma, La., to the late Lowell and Evela Pellegrin. She graduated from Terrebonne High School and attended Nicholls College.

She was a receptionist for the Louisiana State Department of Labor.

She served as a junior in the Women's Army Corps during World War II.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Severna Park.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling, dining out in local establishments and cooking, especially Cajun and Creole dishes. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Christie Morrison; four brothers, Magel, Glen, Lloyd and Ronald Pellegrin; and one sister, Jeannette Daigle.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Leonce J. Davis; one daughter, Downie Codd of Severna Park; one sister, Louella Haddad of Houma, La.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. John the Evangelist Church, 689 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. Interment will be private at a later date. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146.

Edward Dunn

Edward Brian "Eddy" Dunn, 49, of Glen Rock, Pa., and previously of Anne Arundel County, died Sept. 14 in his home.

Mr. Dunn was born Jan. 8, 1959, in Rusiliup, England, to Paul J. and Nancy Lee McKnew Dunn of Crownsville. He graduated from Old Mill High School and the University of Maryland Baltimore County and earned a master's degree from Golden Gate University.

Most recently, he was a software engineer with AAI Corp. in Hunt Valley.

He and his wife operated Arastrae Animal Rescue, and he held a second degree Black Belt under West Coast Martial Arts. He enjoyed sky diving, anything having to do with speed, animals and books.

Survivors include his wife, "Patty" Wilson Dunn; two daughters, Sheila C. Nuttall and Emily N. Moore of Glen Rock, Pa.; one brother, Steven Dunn of Arnold; and one sister, Kathy Maley of Millersville.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arastrae Rescue, Inc., 11377 Fawn Lane, Glen Rock, PA 17327.

David Kerr

David Joseph Kerr, 56, a resident of Crownsville for over 30 years and previously of Riviera Beach, died suddenly Sept. 12 in his home.

Mr. Kerr was born Nov. 19, 1951, in Baltimore to Don and Mary Kerr. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1969.

He was a steamfitter and supervisor at Online Inc., in Crofton and belonged to Steamfitters local 602, where he was a member for over 30 years.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and crabber, and he enjoyed playing acoustic guitar, carving decoys and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Survivors include his wife, Michele Lynn Paul Kerr; two daughters, Courtney and Kristen Kerr; three brothers; one sister; and one grandson.

A memorial service was held at Gonce's Funeral Home in Riviera Beach.

Robert Lucke Sr.

Maryland District Court Judge Robert Numsen Lucke Sr., 84, a resident of Severna Park, died Sept. 16 at The Peartree House in Pasadena.

Judge Lucke was born March 1, 1924, in Washington, D.C., to the late Jesse Numsen and George Albert Lucke Sr. He graduated from Annapolis High School in 1943 and the University of Maryland in 1950. He earned a law degree from the University of Maryland Law School in 1959.

He worked in the investigative department of the Internal Revenue Service from 1950 to 1953, then became the agent-in-charge of the Alcohol Beverage Enforcement Unit of the Maryland Department of Treasury until 1962.

He was a founding partner in the law firm of Smith and Lucke from 1962 to 1977, when he was appointed judge in the Maryland District Court. He continued to sit part-time after his retirement in 1991.

He served in the Army in 1943 and was seriously wounded in France; he received a Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster.

He was a founding member of St. Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church in Severna Park, where he served as a vestryman and assistant superintendent of the Church School. He was a past president of the Severna Park Rotary Club and served on the board of the YMCA. He was a 57-year member of the Free Masons, Glen Burnie Lodge 213 and Boumi Temple, and he was also a co-founder of the Severna Park Old Timers Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lois Klakring Lucke.

Survivors include one son, Robert N. Lucke Jr. of Walkersville; two daughters, Jennifer Lucke Patton of Severna Park and Suzanne Lucke Turner of Salisbury; one sister, Ella Louise Greenhood of Silver Spring; and seven grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church, 375 Benfield Road in Severna Park. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m.

Randall Powell

Randall Lee "Randy" Powell, 57, of Annapolis and previously of Solomons Island for over 25 years, died Sept. 17 at the Carroll Hospice House after a six-year illness.

Mr. Powell was born Aug. 20, 1951, in Ohio to Mary Powell of Annapolis and the late Robert Powell.

He was self-employed in the construction business.

He enjoyed fishing and scuba diving.

Survivors include his former wife, Lisa Powell of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, Chris Connelly of Timonium; two daughters, Julie Hoksbergen of Severna Park and Kari Powell of Hollywood, Fla.; two brothers, Robert Powell of Tampa, Fla., and Richard Powell of Mount Airy; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. Interment will be private.

Eugenie Richmond

Eugenie Philomene "Phil" Richmond, 88, a resident of Annapolis since 1984 and previously of Maine, died of malignant melanoma Sept. 14 in her home.

Mrs. Richmond was born June 28, 1920, in Coolah, New South Wales, Australia, to the late Eugene M. and Clare Wallace Hobbins.

She was a hostess on parliament cars on the New South Wales railway from Sydney to Canberra.

She was a member of the flower committee of the Naval Academy Chapel Guild, the Naval Academy Golf Club and Heritage Harbour Computer Club. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society.

She enjoyed golfing - playing at 44 courses in New Zealand - and also enjoyed cooking, knitting, upholstery, tailoring, gardening and playing bridge.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eric Hobbins, who was lost at sea in World War II, and Leo Hobbins; and one sister, Gwen Hanlon.

Survivors include her husband of over 60 years, Arthur Richmond; two sons, Harvey Richmond of Annandale, Va., and Hugh Richmond of Eldersburg; one daughter, Brenda Richmond of Crofton; two brothers, Kevin and Ian Hobbins of Australia; five sisters, Brenda Gates, Eleanor Burley, Moya Bligh, Beverly Anderson and Roslyn Hobbins of Australia; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Chapel at the Naval Academy; those attending should use gate 8.

Interment will be private in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.

Ruth Smith

Ruth C. Smith, 87, a resident of Annapolis since 1953, died Sept. 15 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Ms. Smith was born March 25, 1921, in Harrisburg, Pa., to the late Jessie C. and Bessie L. Carst. She graduated from Marysville High School and earned a bachelor's and the equivalent of a master's degree from Shippensburg University.

She worked as a licensed attendant at Harrisburg State Hospital and at the former state animal laboratory in Summerdale, Pa., before teaching.

She was an active member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Annapolis.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffery W. Smith of Woodbridge, Va., and Mark L. Smith of Annapolis; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sullivan Funeral Home in Enola, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin's Lutheran Church, 1120 Spa Road, Annapolis, MD 21403.

Nathan Vaughn

Nathan Justin Vaughn, one-month-old son of Thomas R.O. Vaughn and Jennifer B. Dorey of Harwood, died of multiple causes Sept. 10 at the Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Nathan was born prematurely July 31 in Annapolis.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Timothy Vaughn.

Survivors include one brother, Thomas Vaughn Jr. of Harwood; one sister, Virginia Vaughn of Pennsylvania; and his grandparents, Frank Dorey of Harwood, Diane Dorey of Odenton and Ruthie Brentt of Pennsylvania.

Graveside services will be held at noon tomorrow in Our Lady of the Fields Cemetery, 1070 Cecil Ave. in Millersville. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.

Wayne Wicker

Incorrect information was published in the obituary for Wayne Wicker, 63, of Chester in yesterday's edition of The Capital.

A memorial service will be held from noon to 6 p.m. tomorrow at his home, 108 Dundee Ave. in Chester.
