The Capital must receive submitted obituaries with or without current dated photographs by 3:00 p.m. for inclusion in the following day's newspaper (Tuesday-Friday editions). Obits for Monday's edition must be received by 8:30 a.m. that day. Weekend papers deadline is Friday at 3 p.m.

Obituaries are printed on a space-available basis and will be edited to match our style.

The Capital prints obituaries free of charge for residents of Anne Arundel County, those with close family members in the county, or those who worked a significant amount of time in the county.

We reserve the right to edit all obituaries, making them fit to our format and the appropriate length for our paper. If you prefer to run the obituary exactly as you wrote it, please contact Maria in advertising at 410-268-5000 ext. 5905 to take out a death notice.

The deadline for tomorrow.s obituaries is at 3 p.m. today . obituaries received after 3 p.m. will be printed the day after tomorrow.

The following information is required:

Full name of the deceased, age, sex, and home area; date of death, cause of death, and location of death (if an illness, please list how long); Date and location of birth; name of the funeral home or cremation society handling the arrangements

Other suggestions to include in the obituary are:

Resident history (where he/she lived and how long); education and employment; military history (please spell out rank); memberships in any churches or organizations; hobbies, interests, and unusual or interesting achievements

When listing funeral information, please include the address of the place where the funeral and visitation/wake will be held. Please also list the group who handled the arrangements, even if you don.t want the name printed. We must call to verify with the organization.

When listing survivors or pre-deceased family members, please keep in mind that we require their full names, as well as their relationship to the deceased. We also generally list their home areas. We cannot list in-laws, cousins, nieces, or nephews, and list grandchildren and great-grandchildren by number only.
