INTERNSHIPS

Intern with
HometownAnnapolis / The Capital

HometownAnnapolis.com and The Capital newspaper offer for-credit internships:

About us

HometownAnnapolis.com is the primary Web site of Capital Gazette Communications which publishes The Capital, the daily newspaper of Annapolis — Maryland's state capital — and Anne Arundel County. The Web site draws more than a half-million visitors a month while The Capital has a daily paid circulation of nearly 50,000. The company also publishes the Maryland Gazette and four weekly newspapers.

Annapolis is home to the United States Naval Academy and is the self-proclaimed "Sailing Capital of the World." Anne Arundel County has over 400 miles of Chesapeake Bay shoreline.

We place our strongest emphasis on covering the communities of Anne Arundel County as well as Kent Island.

Multimedia Reporting/Online News Management - HometownAnnapolis

This unpaid internship allows students to practice journalism on multiple levels. The intern's primary focus will be on producing videos. Projects may also include writing, slide shows or audio. If interested students can also experience daily online news management including preparing photos for the Web and using the content management system.

Students studying photojournalism or TV-film are particularly encouraged to apply although the internship is open to any student studying journalism or mass-communications wishing to gain Web experience. Availability is on a case-by-case basis.

Please send a short cover letter, resume and contact information to interns@hometownannapolis.com.

Digital media and Web development internships - HometownAnnapolis

Unpaid internships in Web development depend on the needs of the department. Design- and computer-science-specific internships are often available, to be determined on a case-by-case basis. Design interns are usually expected to help in creating advertising, promotions and — depending on skills — user interface elements. Send information to interns@hometownannapolis.com

Internet Marketing/Advertising - HometownAnnapolis

Interns participate in the research and development stages of producing a revenue generating Web site. They will also provide research details to be considered in the implementation of new advertising opportunities and market penetration. The student will aide in the conceptual development of viral marketing campaigns and Web 2.0 user needs. The student should be currently enrolled in college and have completed at least two years with a declared major in either business administration or mass-communications, preferably specializing in marketing.

To apply, please send a cover letter about yourself. Include contact information and the following: semester applying, courses most interested in, school attending, preferred work schedule and major. Also include previous work experience. The internships are unpaid. Send information to interns@hometownannapolis.com.

News internships - The Capital

The editorial department of The Capital offers a paid summer internship for a reporter in association with the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association. Unpaid internships are available — and will be considered on a case-by-case basis — in reporting, design and copy-editing. Send inquiries to Assistant Managing Editor Stu Samuels.

Photojournalists in search of a still photography internship should contact J. Henson.

Sports writing internships are available. Contact Sports Editor Gerry Jackson for information.
