Walk a mile in her heels

"Ugh! I'm going to be limping by the end of this," Alyce Clark groaned good-naturedly yesterday as she pulled on a pair of sparkly purple platform stilettos edged with white lace and punctuated with perky black bows.

Annapolis residents Kendall Barnard, a YWCA intern, and Octavia Brown, a UM-BC student, share an umbrella while strolling at “Walk a Mile in Her Heels,” a YWCA event held yesterday at Anne Arundel Community College to raise sexual assault awareness in the county.

A sexual assault and domestic violence case manager for the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, Clark was one of 45 participants in the local YWCA's first "Walk a Mile in Her Heels" event.

Though the walkers were in a lighthearted mood, they were dead-serious about their reasons for risking bunions and blisters on a mile-long trudge teetering atop sky-high heels.
