All affordable automakers have an entry in the low-priced compact sedan class, and that makes competition fierce. And manufacturers are under as much budget constraint as buyers, perhaps even more. Unlike a performance-oriented small sedan, a plain-Jane small car is not really aspirational. Price has to be competitive, and profit margins are likely slim. So extras are not often included. This is not full-size SUVs circa 1998.
On the buyer side, reasons to buy a small, inexpensive sedan are many, and varied. But budget restraints and commuting come to mind immediately. And those are hardly exclusive. The ideal compact sedan would be...
