Store targets shoppers wanting lower prices and 'gourmet lifestyle'

After months of extensive renovations, Food Lion will open its Odenton store tomorrow as "Bloom," a new concept focusing on convenience through technology and a wider variety of food products.

Starting tomorrow, the Food Lion grocery store in Odenton will officially become “Bloom,” a new concept focusing on customer convenience and a wider variety of food products. Customers will be able to find information kiosks, where they may check prices, look up recipes, select a wine and print out grocery lists.
The roughly 38,000-square-foot store at 8741 Piney Orchard Parkway is one of 40 Food Lion sites set to convert to Bloom in the Washington D.C. area, company officials said. It is the only location in the county.
"We did a lot of research to determine where demand would be greatest," said Karen Peterson, spokesman for Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion.
