Ed Blake has been a builder for most of his life, so when he bought an aging Pasadena marina in dire need of a makeover, he wasn't worried about a little patch-up work. "It was a run-down old boat yard," said Mr. Blake, who bought Bar Harbor Marina for $1.2 million in November 2005. "The (previous owner) didn't put in that tender loving care it needed." And Mr. Blake wasn't afraid to put his money where his mouth was. He put down $75,000 to upgrade the electrical wiring system along the pier for vessels to plug into. About $50,000 went into repairing the marina's office building, which was sagging into the shoreline...
