Inside a small white building in the town of Chester, the Kent Drugs pharmacy is surrounded by competition: Across the street is a drive-thru Rite Aid. Safeway, CVS and Walgreens loom nearby.
Despite this, the family-owned business has stayed profitable even as other pharmacies like it have disappeared. This summer, Kent Drugs celebrates its 30th anniversary as the only independent pharmacy left on Kent Island.
Although chains have built up around it, Kent Drugs has maintained a reputation as the go-to place for prescriptions and personalized service.
