For nearly a century, the navigation products of Weems and Plath have guided serious sailors at sea.

Peter Trogdon, president of the Eastport nautical instruments company Weems and Plath, leans next to a Conant Custom Brass Weather Station.Now, the Eastport company is testing the waters with land-based instruments. Weems and Plath officials announced last month that the company acquired the outdoor weather instrument manufacturing division of a Vermont firm for an undisclosed price. Conant Custom Brass is a Burlington-based company that hand assembles an array of custom weather products, from its $54 Vermont Dial Weather station to a $209 Jeffersonian rain gauge.
