Contending with mounting financial burdens, the economy has forced many to cut back on recreational spending. But Halloween is proving to be the exception to people's recent guarded spending habits as candy, decorations and costumes sales this season are exceeding many years past.
Retailers expect almost 8 million more people than last year to dress in costume and 11 million more people to decorate their yards, according to the National Retail Federation.
