City commercial vacancies nearly double in 4th quarter

Office vacancies in the state capital nearly doubled in the fourth quarter of 2008 compared with the same time the previous year, ending a bleak year for commercial real estate agents who hustled to lease space amid slowing demand.

Vacancies in Annapolis rose to 11.63 percent in the fourth quarter, compared with 6.74 percent in the fourth quarter of 2007, according to the latest report from MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services released last month to The Capital.

Asking rents, meanwhile, remained some of the highest in the state.
