Hospitals tackle MRSA

Anne Arundel County's two hospitals are going back to the basics to prevent the spread of infections.

The staff at both Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis and Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie have found that's the best way to reduce the occurrence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, a strain of bacteria that can be deadly if untreated. This form of staph infection is resistant to some antibiotics.

To prevent the spread of the bacteria, BWMC has put an extra focus on hygiene among staff and patients. AAMC officials are finding new uses for materials previously used only...
