Chamber Notes: Public health insurance not any different from other public insurance options

Over the past few months, I've focused this column on the cost and delivery of health care in our region and in our country.

Researching and writing the columns has been an interesting and valuable journey for me, as well as an exercise in understanding the importance of the undertaking our elected leaders have before them.

Absent the economic downturn we are currently experiencing, health care is without question the most pressing long-term concern for businesses of all sizes, their employees, their investors and consumers.

Bob, thanks for presenting this issue with such clarity, focusing on the truly important aspects. Yours is a rare beam of light in a very dark forest.

It's so odd that those who have most to gain from sensible reform, and who are already victims of the worst aspects of our present system, seem duped into opposing manifestly sensible improvement.

enlightening article-eyes rolling. The truth is medicare has all but eliminated private insurance from that market. Both sides agree that there needs to be transparency and competition in health insurance. Until the Feds prove they can remove the waste from Medicare without gouging senior care, the Baucus plan is DOA.
