The Marine Corps has given Northrop Grumman a $14 million extension on its two-year project to develop a revolutionary radar system.

An artist rendering of the G/ATOR, a multi-mission radar currently being developed and tested at Northrop Grumman in Linthicum. G/ATOR, which stands for ground/air task oriented radar, will combine technologies from five different radars into one user-friendly unit.
The G/ATOR mobile radar system - ground/air task oriented radar - is the largest Marine Corps radar program ever. Northrop beat out Lockheed Martin for the $256.6 million project to develop and build the units in March 2007. The goal is to combine the attributes of five different radar systems now in use by the Corps.
