Crosby Marketing Communications recently announced it has hired Justin Miller as group creative director, interactive. Miller was with AKQA in Washington, D.C., where his work for the National Hockey League earned recognition by Fast Company's 2009 list of "Top 10 Most Innovative Sports Brands." Before that, he worked as a graphic designer for Smart Design in San Francisco and has more than a decade of experience. * * * Hammond Wilson Architects, based in Annapolis, recently announced that Christopher D. Frank and Bryan T. Fishback have been certified as Leadership in Environmental and Energy Efficient Design, or LEED, accredited professionals. Hammond Wilson Architects specializes in academic, residential and commercial design and is working with The Key School in Hillsmere to incorporate green-building technologies, according to a release. For more information, visit www.hammondwilson.com. * * * Jeffrey Hall, owner, and Joanne Hall, marketing and administration manager, of Arnold-based Villa Builders Inc., recently attended a three-day educational event featuring the teachings of ZingTrain, the training arm of the Zingerman's Community of Businesses. This conference was presented to members of Remodelers Advantage Roundtables, a peer organization created by Remodelers Advantage Inc., a national firm. Roundtables is dedicated to helping owners of remodeling companies build strong, profitable businesses. * * * Buddy Goetzger recently joined the sales team at Atlantic Lighting and Irrigation in Gambrills. He will be responsible for meeting with homeowners and commercial property owners/managers throughout the state to assess and design both irrigation and lighting systems, according to a release. In addition, he will oversee the installation crews. Goetzger has been working in the green industry for more than three years, and before that, he owned and operated The Inn at Glen Echo for 18 years. He is completing his certified irrigation contractor designation from the Irrigation Association. * * * Douglas Orellana, a systems engineer for Northrop Grumman Corp., has received the 2009 Promising Engineer of the Year award from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers for his outstanding technical accomplishments. He is a lead integrator of model-based, system-engineering methodology for the Systems Engineering Department at the company's Undersea Systems business unit in Annapolis. In this role, he proposed and planned the development of a generic unmanned underwater vehicle, according to a release. * * * Members of ARINC's Speakeasy Club recently won top honors in a district public-speaking competition in Annapolis. They were set to compete against speakers from 120 clubs at the District 18 contest yesterday. Oscar Manrique, an engineer with Arinc, took first in the Humorous Speech Contest. Liz League, a homemaker and mother of four from Severna Park, won first place in the Evaluation Contest. Westin Msikita, also an engineer with Arinc, took third place in the Humorous Speech Contest.
