TCS president named to FCC councilAnnapolis - The president and chief executive officer of an Annapolis telecommunications company has been selected to serve on the Federal Communications Commission's Communications Security, Reliability and Interoperability Council. Maurice Tose, president, CEO and board chairman of TeleCommunication Systems Inc., will be part of a group that will provide recommendations to the commission regarding best practices and actions to ensure optimal security, reliability and interoperability of communications systems, including public safety, telecommunications and media communications, according to a release. Some of the council's other duties include, recommending options to ensure the availability of communications capacity during natural disasters, terrorist attacks, or other events that result in exceptional strain on the communications infrastructure, and evaluating ways to strengthen the collaboration between communications service providers and public safety entities during emergencies. "I look forward to providing my experience and recommendations for making certain our nation's communications networks and services are dependable during times of crisis as well as an ongoing basis," Tose said the release. Goodwill headquarters moves to bigger spaceLINTHICUM - Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake moved its headquarters to a bigger space at 800-810 Central Avenue last week. "We've needed more space for quite a while but it's taken a very long time to find the right space for us," said Ursula Villar, marketing director for the company. "This building had everything we needed." The nonprofit group bought the 21,050-square-foot building from TW Perry for $2.92 million. It was built in 1982, sits on 6.4 acres and has two drive-in bays. Goodwill, which moved from 25 Thomas Ave. in Linthicum, employs about 20 people at the its headquarters, all of whom will be working out of the new building. It will house operations for retail, a training center for staff and have an outlet store. Donations will be sorted at this building, which will also house Goodwill's trucks. Restaurant to have charity nightsGambrills - Kaufmann's Tavern in Gambrills is preparing to launch its Giving Back Campaign, aimed at helping regional nonprofit groups. Restaurant owner Del. James King said in a release interested nonprofit and charitable organizations can register with Kaufmann's by visiting www.kaufmannstavern.com. The opening of the event is scheduled for tomorrow. Through April 2010, on Wednesday nights, Kaufmann's will host Giving Back night. Diners on those evenings can select the pre-registered charity of their choice to receive Kaufmann's donation in the diner's name of 10 percent of their check, according to a release.
