What makes self-employment "ugly" is the application of conventional thinking and structures (i.e. if I'm not employed by a company or deployed by an agency then something must be amiss.)
I became a "Business of One" when I was laid off in March; the second time in my career.
Self-employment can be free from hassles and worries. Self-employment can mean ownership and permanence. Self-employment can be fun.
