In Maryland, there were 160,000 middle-income earners aged 64 and younger who were uninsured in 2000. The number rose to 240,000 in 2008.
Nationally, there are nearly 13 million uninsured middle-income people, an increase of 2 million since 2000, according to the report.

Plenty of competition for BGE. You can buy electricity from Washington Gas for $10.10 a KWH. That's a good deal.

competition ? - 2010-03-18 18:42:36
I call you on the competitiion rhetoric. We deregulated BGE right ? Competition is hardly flooding our state. The only way to control the suffocating costs of healthcare is through government control ( regulation) .
This dementia driven reaganomics stiff is poppycock.

Middle class... - 2010-03-18 16:39:04
Interesting classification, middle...whatthe article is reallys saying is the the majority of Marylanders(and the nation) are having a difficult time paying for ever increasing premiums and co-pays. If you are paying for your insurance indvidually your are getting wacked. If you are a small business owner,(less than 100 employees) and paying for employees' insurance you're getting wacked. If you work for a company providing insurance, your wage is depressed to cover your insurance. What's the answer... well it certainly is not... keeping on the same path. Two insurance corporations 'cover' 72% of insured in Maryland. That's hardly competition.
