City man honored for Katrina aid workPublished 12/28/05
An Annapolis man has been awarded the Maryland Meritorious Service Medal for his efforts to help people in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. Lt. Col. Michael Barrett was a major part of the Maryland Defense Force's Operation Lifeline. On Nov. 8, he received the medal, which is the second highest medal given to non-military personnel. "I was extremely honored," he said. "I was just one of the cogs on the wheel. Thankfully we were able to respond and it was a great experience." Col. Barrett was one of 10 to 15 support people who handled the paperwork of Operation Lifeline, which shipped more than 200 health-care...
