"Get real" isn't just a Valley Girl put-down, it's the theme of a new book by Bill Schmickle, chairman of the Annapolis Historic Preservation Commission, which enforces the Historic District code. The book, "The Politics of Historic Districts: A Primer for Grassroots Preservation," could make good reading for anyone interested in politics, advocacy, group dynamics or the media. If it has a flaw, it's that the title should be more encompassing, to attract a wider range of readers.
