Even for the sometimes peculiar Maritime Republic of Eastport, the gate at Stella's Stern and Keel Marina on Back Creek is a head-scratcher.

Positioned at the edge of the private marina's grassy slope is an enormous, ornate, antique gate standing alone without any fence.
If boating is already heaven to many in Eastport, then the road to the world beyond looks like it may begin at the intersection of Chester and State Streets. Marina owner and house developer Dean Slaughter installed the decorative imposing gate in November, "I bought the marina with the property in 2005. I wanted to privatize and decorate it...
